ComancheKid45
^^^ Truck looks good  Alrighty so when I swap a Dana 44 in my SWB (from a LWB if it matters) I will either need a new driveshaft or to find a place to shorten mine? I'm currently sitting +1.5" in the rear and plan to go about another 2" withen the next year or so, will shortening the driveshaft now be a problem with an extra 2" or so whenever? mvusse
Running ~7-8" lift in the rear including Chevy drop shackles. I run an axle with a 1" longer nose than the stock one, use a YJ yoke, which is 0.75" longer than the Comanche one, and still the yoke was 1" farther out than it used to be. Don't know about 3.5", though.
ComancheKid45
Alright. Does anyone possibly have a measurement of a SWB 4x4 rear drive shaft with a Dana 44 rear? Just to have a number to work with

juan
I did this swap a couple of years ago on my 88 mj ba10. Iswapped the d35 for an mj d44. I'm used the same plates but new d44 ubolts, also I tryed using the d35 backing plates and hardware but it just did not fit so I ended up getting new d44 backing plates, brakes and hardware. I ran the d35 stock driveshaft but it was just way too close for comfort so I had it shorten an inch and now all is good.
ComancheKid45
I have my 44 installed with about 3" of lift on the rear. the D35 Driveshaft is installed as well and has about 1/2" of clearence before bottoming out at ride height. Now the front is 2.5" lower and will be lifted accordingly withen the next week or so I figure so ill see how everything plays out then. For now I'm running my D35 shaft with my D44 and unless i load the crap outta the rear I don't forsee any bottoming issues :smart: :typing:
