What lift for my '86

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. New here I own a '86 comanche 2.5 4x4 right now it's stock but I'm looking into lifting it. What are some of the best (and cheapest) lift's I can get for it? I would like to get a stronger set of leaf springs so replacements would be exellent.

Idea's, sugestions, any general info would be great.

Thanks

How much lift and what size tires are you wanting to run???? Willing to trim fender??? what do you want to get out of it?/ Just for looks or a good mud truck or rocks?? All this needs to be considered when lifting so that your not disappointed and we can tell you our experiences with what we have or have had.

I just put a 3.5" rustys add a leaf and a 1.5" chevy drop shackle in the rear and rustys 3" coils up front with a 1" spacer on mine. It sits level and clears 33's fine in the back. 33's don't agree with my fenders in the front while flexing though. I don't run fender flares and my front fenders are cut in the rear for clearance.

zj coils up front with a home made 2" spacer(cut from a chock block) gave me 4" total up front and a SOA in the rear. can't beat the price total cost was under $50. most expensive item was the brake lines across the rear axel. and it was realatively easy to do. but mine is not for major 4 wheelin just looks good. fits 33 in the rear easily but 33s upfront would require moding the fender so i use 31s

bdjr I am surprised that you got 2" out of ZJ coils we have put a couple of sets on before and never got more than 1/2" of lift 1st set was used coils out of V8 w/47,000 mi and 2nd were brand new a friend at jeep garage gave me also V8 coils and still only got 1/2" lift you are not only person to say you got an inch or two out of them. As for harper.631 I personaly would just start out w/1 3/4- 2" spacers and 30s so you can still flex good, but if you are looking for a bigger lift and tires you can combine these and a 3" kit for 5" and 32s and a little triming or 33s and alot of triming, 4 wheel parts has a great deal on a 3" kit in there suspention specials section for 225.99 and not really my favs but good deal none the less pro comp has a buy 3 get one free during october 150-160.00 each for MTs. or you can look for a used 3,4,or6" kit for a XJ or if you find one for a TJ wrangler you can use the front stuff from it and do a spring over on rear I have done this before and some kits are a little different as to how much lift you will actualy get my skyjacker 4" tj lift only gave me 3 1/2" of lift, also new coil isolaters will help a little also (about a 1/4" if yours are wore clear out mine were) every little bit helps. Good Luck....Sean.

your not the only one to say that. but the proof is in the pics under tech look for zj coils in an mj. they gave me 1 &7/8 lift in the front and that made me happy. and the best part is they only cost $10 :D
