hey i bet girsmj can fix the hood with por-15 and masking tap :rotf: but the rest is a b!t(h. I'd take my time and rebuild that is to sweet a rig to dispose of. did they ever determine the cause?

Thanks for reminding me how old I am

we can not predict the dreaded DW. i got lucky with my setup, but was prepared to deal with it if it occured. the DW can be caused by to many things combined or even one defective part. so all i can say is try it and see if it works for you. ;) bill

it is only a 2wd and the stock arms seem to be very accepting. i would not recommed this for serious off roading. don't be cheap on that!! but it works for my purpose.

what year and tank size. on the 86's there was a tsb that came out that stated that the 'float' on the arm of the sending unit needed to be reversed. this is because the sending units are for 16 gallon tanks and they started to use 23.5 gallon tanks. it says to simply pop off the float and reverse it to make it fit. hope it helps bill

i to am to cheap to buy a lift so i soa'd the rear which gave me 4-5 in the back. then put 2" spacers and got coils from a zj v-8(and was told they are from and upland? package) and that gave me 4 1/2 up front and i made little lift blocks for the shocks. rides smooth and no DW!!!!

muffler or straight pipe??
bdjr replied to 1987MJfreak!'s topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
i have a glasspack on my 2.8 and it sounds good. throaty not ricey. and since i moved the tank i can run true duals all the way out the back. just have to wait for the crossover to rot through. come on rust :brows: -
big city? Alex I warned you about the hooligans in Waldo!! oh you yungins will never learn :D I had to sorry :brows:

wow thanks for posting i thought i was being ignored ;) here is where i am at so far. the float and send unit is fine i disco'd them to check them out and pulled out seats to see if any damage was done when i put in the bucket seats. even disco'd the gauge reads the same almost an inch past full. after researching how the system works the tan wire that feeds to the gauge's bi-metal spring is not telling the gauge that there is less fuel. either the wire is broke or when i took the tank out it waved to a point that FUBARED the gauge. what a pain in the @$$. looks like i will be paying a visit to alex's barn 8)

WOW! yeah what he said!

could be vapor lock. does it run fine for a a bit then start cutting out. just a thought. mine did it when whenmy tank slid and pinched a return hose. bill

New 2.5 MJ project...Now a 4.0 H.O. project
bdjr replied to CEThomas's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
you can make spacers(i did) there are several recipies for them pm me and i will give you some. or you could sweet talk Alex because i know he has a set of 2" spacers not being used. bill -
thanks alex, makes me think that there wasn't anything wrong with the original till i got a hold of it and broke the tab  .

help :headpop: need some info the the gas gauge. after i removed the tank and bed the gas gauge reads about an inch past full. always!. thought maybe i buggered the sending unit so i replaced it(thanks alex). and it still sits an inch past full! opened up the dash and pushed it over to empty and turn on the ignition and guess where it went(an inch past full). removed the gauge and metered it there are three prongs one at 12o'clock one at 9 and one at 6 as you look at them. there is 12volts dc between the 12o'clock and 9o'clock prongs but nothing between 9 and 6. i'm thinking either a solid short or solid ground. but not sure. what should i do next? is there a relay? bill

your not the only one to say that. but the proof is in the pics under tech look for zj coils in an mj. they gave me 1 &7/8 lift in the front and that made me happy. and the best part is they only cost $10 :D
-
zj coils up front with a home made 2" spacer(cut from a chock block) gave me 4" total up front and a SOA in the rear. can't beat the price total cost was under $50. most expensive item was the brake lines across the rear axel. and it was realatively easy to do. but mine is not for major 4 wheelin just looks good. fits 33 in the rear easily but 33s upfront would require moding the fender so i use 31s bill

LooKin for bench seat cover for the manche
bdjr replied to Frankensteinsmj's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
why not just replace the seat? is it the full bench or the bench wih the indent for the shift console. i have a full bench in my basement in good shape. only 1 rip and that is in the sidewhere the driver seat belt rubs. if the tush is tender you could repad it. just a suggestion. bill -
ok i counted the wraps there are 9 large wraps and 1 small wrap at the top not sure where you started. they were a full wrap larger then the stock springs i took off. and it sits very level and firm. no DW either. i will admit i did have a hell of a time getting them on. my spring compressers sat on the ground laugh at me while i tried to "stretch" the suspension far enough to slip them in. and yes i disco'd the links, shocks and brakes.
-
i have a 2.8L, and made 2"spacers out of tire chocks. now these springs came out of a zj with an L6 not the v8. not sure if there would be any differance in rate. but i have close to a 4" front lift and it cost me $10. which is the amount my wife let's me spend on the truck anually. :jump:
-
hey i know this topic has been asked but i have the results.got some zj springs off of jage and put them in my mj. the over all lift was 1-3/4". pics $uck sorry. before: Image Not Found after: Image Not Found now i need taller tires :brows: bill
