  1. this is something me and my wife are planning on attending this coming summer. I am really looking forward to this event and showing all those CJ's what a comanche can do! I think it would be awesome if some of the club members were able to attend as well. don't worry if your comanche is stock this event is for all 4 wheel drive rigs. as the web page says they have mild trails moderate trails and challenging trails. this is a great event in Washington. The registration begins on FEB 12. Hope to see some of your there! here is the link to the PN4WDA web page. http://www.pnw4wda.org/trailjam/index.htm
  2. as far as i can tell the track bar is black. might be a different color under all that dirt, grease and oil. the skid plate in the front is pretty darn thick thats what made me think that it might be after market. i have owned several other full size trucks that were not equipped with a steering stabilizer and thats why i thought it was kind of cool to see one mounted up on my comanche. by the way.. does anyone know of a double shock steering stabilizer for comanches?
  3. When i purchased my MJ i never really looked at the underside of the truck. today i had my transmission serviced and i got to poke around under there. i noticed that i have a skid plate in the front and a steering stabilizer shock mounted up as well as an adjustable track bar. also i have a skid plate mounted under my gas tank. my MJ is a 1987 pioneer with the 4.0 I6. so are these parts stock or after market parts added by a previous owner?
  4. I'm going to leave the cat in. maybe that will provide enough back pressure? either way it sure sounds alot more like a truck with that muffler taken out.
  5. I was wondering if anyone had could tell me if it would cause any problems to the engine if i cut out my muffler and welded in a straight pipe in its place. i have already removed the muffler and placed a straight pipe in. it sounds mean! but i put the muffler back in because i didnt know if there would be any problems with my engine with out it. i want to uncork that 4.0L and let her breath maybe opening up some untapped power. another question in have is i know that the 87 cherokee has the same engine as my MANche and they make an intake for the cherokee. will it work for my MANche? also has anyone ever installed a snorkel on their manche if so do you have any pics of it? and a review of its performance? Thanks as always! James,
  6. still trying to figure out how to get my picture uploaded
  7. As far as i know everything in my 87 is stock. It does whine out in first around 1500 RPMs and it shutters at around 20 MPH in second and around 20 to 25 in third. its really weird. it feels like its slipping out of gear for a split second and then right back in. but as soon as i pass 35 MPH she cruises right along. on the highway she seems like 65-70 is all she's got. i know that it`s geared pretty low. so i wasnt expecting a speed demon. any way what about lift kits? i really want to install one but i don't know wich one is the best. as always any help is very much appreciated! Thanks
  8. So. this is the strangest thing. When i bought my 87 the only thing on the dash that worked was the speedo. after a weekend of wheeling at our local ORV park all of my guages work again. i was supprised to see it come to life when i started it up this morning. i must have banged it around enough to re connect something. also in the morning when she's cold she shifts alittle rough. I can feel the gears rub alittle when i shift. especially into first. but as soon as she gets warmed up she shifts perfect. is that a common problem with jeeps? would a good tranny flush clean that up? i am supposed to go wheeling again this weekend but i`m scared i`ll rattle it all loose again. I took it up a pretty steep hill climb in some pretty soupy mud and she climbed like a dream. this is my first jeep so i`m kind of new to all of their quirks. but i am really happy that i bought it. Also i was wondering about a lift. i know that rancho makes a 3" kit does any one have that lift or can anyone recomend a better one? thanks again!
  9. Well i Havent got to actually look at the T-case yet but according my chilton it says that my 87 has the 207. i would be very pleased to find out that my MJ had the 231. Either way i could not be more please with my MJ.
  10. Today I finally got to take my MJ off road. I could not believe the pulling power of the front end. it felt like it was trying to pull my truck in half! All I can say is WOW! I just bought my MJ from a friend for $1,000. it has 172,000 miles on it and the only things I have done to it is remove the tailgate and install a tail gate net and installed brand new 23575R15 wild cat mud tires. It has the 4.0 L inline 6 cylinder. NP 207 transfer case and the DANA 35C rear end. I have never owned a jeep before but I am now officially a comanche freak! I love this truck. i just can't believe how well a 19 year old truck with the stock motor and almost no modifications has stood the test of time. the jeep comanche was truely designed to last no doubt about it!.
