Dozer11B
Hey everyone. New here. Just bought my first MJ the other day after I blew the motor on my 95 XJ. The MJ is a 1987 longbed with the 2.8L V6. Ugh. I needed a daily driver and something to play with for the next month before I deploy. Here's a pic of how the "Killpig" looked when I bought her. Look for the rest in the tech section. Have fun and be safe!!
Automan2164
Welcome, but '87, 2.8L? Sure its not an '86? Welcome to the madness. Rob L.
Geonovast
Welcome! Looks like a nice straight MJ. Even dirty already :D One thing though. Either its not an 87, not a 2.8, or someone bothered to put a 2.8 into an 87. the 2.8 was only offered in 86.
Dozer11B
Yep- it's an '86. dang fat fingers- did it on my sig too!

Dozer11B
There's a nice bit of rust and dents on the passenger side. Looks like someone hit a mailbox a while ago. The rust spots look like a topographic map. It has plenty of bugs and kinks I am working out, but that's part of the fun.
Dozer11B
That is the XJ in question..... And here is the damage that led to the demise of the Wartoad and my purchase of the Killpig: I forgot to get a pic of the portion of engine block that went when it blew........... She will get an engine swap when I return from Afghanistan.
Geonovast
Holy wow. You weren't kidding. That happen on a trail, or just going down the road? Did you pour sand in the crankcase first?

freakjeep93
wow. that must have been a ............. "exiting" experience when that blew... welcome to the club.
Dozer11B
Haha. Nope- heading to Turkey Bay ORV in the rain with no doors on at 65 mph. Some grinding and the sound of crunching/breaking glass (oddly enough), then it almost sounded like pocket change hitting the highway as I pulled over. Very hateful sound. My truck was becoming an icon among the guys in my unit. I had a lot of work into it to get it running and maintained right. I had just finished swapping in a JY transmission the day before. The PO didn't do much in the way of fluid changing. She'll get the proper treatment when I get home though. I'm, gonna do the MJ up right too. LOTSA issues there. Lenard
Welcome to the Club. Looks like you already got the Jeep bug. Now that you have a manche, it will only get worse.
Dozer11B
Thanks for the welcome everyone. Glad to be here. Yeah this being my second Jeep in 6 months, and I'm not getting rid of the Wartoad, I'd say I got the bug. Gonna be nice to have a grocery getter and a hauler. Already learning from some of the guys the quirks that separate the XJ from the MJ............ That's alright though. Looks like there's a good wealth of knowledge. Hope to add to it and help some guys out.
87Warrior
That is an odd place for the cam to show up! Did it cause any damage to the crank? I think it would have almost had to... Welcome to the club. I have found the MJ to be more addicting than my TJ, simply because it has a much higher 'cool' factor. Mine was supposed to be a daily driver. Thank you for your service to our country! :USAflag:
