MJ is dead
64 my man the rez is no different here in SD, the only exception is here in SD you probably would have had a squatter in that exploder, and it would have had more bullet holes than hunter s. Thompson's basement I would have done the exact same thing if not snagged more stuff. As for the moral debacle here. Well....*pulls up lawnchair*
64 Cheyenne
Found another one. This one was so far down in a draw I almost missed it. If my friend hadn't have seen it before we turned around... Anyways, looks like it was there for a while (years?). Took the grill guard/bumper, swapped it for a front skid. My friend is gonna use it for the start of his bumper on his MJ. The spare tire mount I'm either gonna use it to mount an extra spare like the way it is or maybe use it to mount the spare tire desert racer style. Back to the courier, besides being stuck so far down the draw, I think if a person was to drag it out do some repairs I think this one would still be drivable. Besides the visible damage, all the tires are still holding air, the radiator is missing but the motor still turns. On another note, I forgot to take pics of the plyboard floor...... :rotf: Anybody want anything off of this? Please no morals or ethics, I think we kicked that one enough. terrawombat
No moral or ethic debate from me. I just think it's hilarious that you randomly find these abandoned cars scattered about the woods and nothing is done with them for months....years... FXWorks
That tire carrier in the bed is pretty cool. What kind of truck is that? An old Ford Courier or Chevy Luv or something? Finding old vehicle isn't that hard IME. Hell, I found three on the wood lot on the back my property that I didn't know were there. Looks like they were parked on an old road that fell into disuse and then stripped. Then the trees started growing up through them. The cars are late 1950s vintage. Walked past them many times. Kinda freaky to see. Expect to see some guy in a hockey goalie mask pop up behind them. LOL

kastein
No moral or ethic debate from me. I just think it's hilarious that you randomly find these abandoned cars scattered about the woods and nothing is done with them for months....years... Same. I was going to post something like what taz did, but you know what? It's been 3 months, the police already decided it wasn't worth their time, the owner hasn't claimed it, neither has the insurance company, there were beer cans all over which means either the owner or the thief deserved what they had coming when they rolled it... go ahead and make the hulk lighter so it can be hauled off more easily when the time comes, I'm not losing any sleep over it. Just don't do anything stupid like light it on fire and pollute the place, or dump the fluids everywhere while pulling stuff, and you'll have no argument from me. I've seen a couple random junk cars out in the woods around here, but nothing that frequent and things tend to rust away quickly around here. 87Warrior
*gear ratio* I had 4.10s in my TJ with 31s and 33s and the 5 speed. With the 31s it was great on the road and off the road. The 33s were ok on and off the road, but totally sucked with any load in the Jeep or trying to go over a mountain pass. This was barely acceptable. Then I got 35s. I hated driving the Jeep on the road and it rolled way to fast in 4Lo. Regeared to 5.13 and couldn't be happier. 2800 rpm @ 70 mph. *moral debacle* Hell ya! 64 Cheyenne
Exploder update. It's still there, although the engine, tranny and TC, interior all gone. Nothing left but the shell.
AMCJeepMJ
So, how long did it take for the shell to be removed, or is it still there?
64 Cheyenne
3 years later...Really? Naw just kiddin, it was gone in the spring after the road became passable for a wrecker with minimal effort. There are people around here that make a living on scrappin cars, it's kind of a shady business we were talkin about this the other night over dinner, seems that people have had cars taken from their yards when they weren't home, another guy ran out of gas....when he got back with gas, his car was gone....scrappers got it.Did or do the cops do anything about it :rotf:
jimoshel
Having a steel mill in town, there' a thriving business in scrap metal. The JY and scrap yards won't take a vehicle without a title. No title they charge you $5 to run a VIN search. Cut it up into several pieces and it's no longer a vehicle. It's scrap so no title needed. Think the fastest I've ever chopped one up was 15 minutes. A couple years back you could find junked, wrecked abandoned cars scattered all over the prairie and in the mountains. They're all pretty well cleaned up now. There's half dozen regular advertisers in the local paper wanting your scrap metal.
Dirteatr717
Although this is 3 years old, I've found and scrapped 17 cars in total in the woods by me... All of them were there for AT LEAST 20 years. Some had trees 12" in diameter through them. Most were already falling apart or pieces stripped already but I'd cut 2 up in a day and make a couple trips to the scrapyard. I'd call it cleaning up the woods more so than stealing :D
