landlubber
I'm looking to step up the MJs audio in the very near future, the 6 1/2s in the doors are getting boing. looking for some 6x9s in the rear corners and some kind of slim series subwoofer. I have a little experience wiring up speakers and did a sub once, but I'm pretty lost on what to get and all that. 130+ dB is a bit much though. Willy Willy, I totally agree, a totally senseless wast of time, money and effort. Don't get me wrong, a nice sounding stereo is something I too enjoy. Buy pushing the envelope to ear drum busting levels is complete foolishness. Buy a nice head unit, and a good quality brand of speakers. You will enjoy a quality listening experience, and well as keep your hearing till the end of your days ..... I have about a 150$ Alpine head unit and excellent quality Infinity speakers. My fronts are component 5 1/4's with separate tweeters and crossovers. Then 4x6 in the rear in fact locations. I have thought about a small amp a couple times, but its not necessary as this setup affords me plenty of good quality sound. CW

beaterjeep
I had you beat by .1 dB in Baby, back when she had a stereo in it. It was just a little old Pioneer head unit, 2 12" Kicker Comp VR4's in small boxes, and a 300W amp (yes, that's all the amp was, and the dB was verified via a dB drag I was in). There's pics of the setup on here somewhere, but I don't really want (or have the time to) dig them up right now. I can add them again if need be when I get home later this week. Pete M
I mean no offense, but I'm not sure that anything makes someone sound like an old fart faster than telling a kid his radio is too loud. :clapping: Although those numbers are pretty high. :D

CWLONGSHOT
I remember the head unit was about a buck and a half. The rear speakers a buck and a quarter and IIRC, the component fronts just over two bills... so under 500 total. Put your money in to the speakers and you will be happy... beaterjeep
My deck was free (from a friend that upgraded), the subs were $80 each, the amp I actually found in a junkyard car for $25, and the friend that gave me the deck built the boxes and gave me the wiring for $20. So, all told I only had $205 into it :brows: . Sold the subs and boxes off so I could afford a water pump for her.
