87Warrior Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 I saw Avatar this past weekend with the girlfriend. We did the matinee because of the additional cost for 3D stuff. I give it an honest 9.7/10. The movie was original and powerful. Excellent graphics and 3d display. This was the first 3d film I had seen in about 15 years (the last time was @ Disney World watching some ghost busters thing). Once the 3d advertisements were over, I was well adjusted to the new viewing experience and left without a headache. Typically I am not a fan of futuristic or far fetched plots. Avatar was both of these but was successful at drawing me in through its down to earth basis. This movie was by far the BEST movie I have seen in years, granted I am far from a movie buff :rotf: It could be a 10/10, but: -0.1 for the uncomfortable 3d glasses -0.1 for using US Military uniforms -0.1 for being somewhat predictable I would really like to see Avatar in IMAX 3D. Researching the possibilities  What is your take on the movie?
Lenard Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 ive seen it twice now. first 3D ever. i agree with you 87warrior good graphics and everything but it was predictable. got to ask whats wrong with using U.S. uniforms? hometree in the movie....when i saw that all i could think was how much wood that was to cut up.... :D
Darren Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 It was the first movie I've seen in 3D also. I thought it was a great movie. I cried at the end though.
dasbulliwagen Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 Read somewhere that it has pulled in more than 1 BILLION dollars in box office worldwide already. BILLION!
jeepcoma Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 I would really like to see Avatar in IMAX 3D. Researching the possibilities  It's pretty sweet
87Warrior Posted January 6, 2010 Author Posted January 6, 2010 got to ask whats wrong with using U.S. uniforms? It just slightly bothered me that the humans were all depicted as Americans. 1/2 of the world dislikes us as it is as this simple depiction could add fuel to the fire. Political propaganda? Maybe, but I figure it was just easier. what about character development? There is a substantial amount of character development, most specifically the lead. won't go into it much so there is nothing spoiled to others. No desire to see it. Why is that? Truth be told, I was not looking forward to the movie as I had absolutely no desire to see it. Went in with an open mind, dreading 3 hours in a theater seat, and was blown away. I only noticed 3 people get up and leave the jam packed theater while the movie was playing. 2 of witch were a father and son sitting beside us. Maybe you could find a version online to "preview".
