garyindiane Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 Hi, I'm in the process of droping the trans on the beast. When I removed my down pipe the flange bolts broke. My question is are the studs removable. Can I just replace them with some bolts? Grade 5 or better? Specs: 89 4.0L Any help or info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance -Gary
freakjeep93 Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 the studs DO come out but they are a majour pain . i think my dad always just burnt them out wuth the torch
88mjmanche Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 yes they come out and yes you can put some grade 5 or stronger on there thats what i had to do
Pete M Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 They are pressed in and "removable". But it's not necessarily an easy task. :(
freakjeep93 Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 acetkyne torch and a big hammer and they come right out ! :D
garyindiane Posted December 29, 2009 Author Posted December 29, 2009 Thanks for all the quick replies. Hopefully they will come out easy for me. Thanks again, Gary
Darren Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 When you replace them, use a grade 8 with "never seize".
garyindiane Posted December 30, 2009 Author Posted December 30, 2009 Trust me my hands are staind from using so much anti-seize. I do have one more question. I just looked up the donut gasket for the flange and it say their are 2 required? Does anyone know where the other one would go? Do I use one on the down pipe and one on the manifold? I'm just trying to make sure I have everything i need. Thanks-Gary
Darren Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 There was only one when I did mine................?
