sorry this is my first post, just in need of some help, after i post here i'll start my build thread

I have an 1988 MJ 4.0L with the 5 speed manuel ax-15

i got this 3 days ago and the tranny is blown, i found a steal on a ax-15 from a 1991 Dakota V6 and the guy was running it in his 1995 Wrangler

i'm not to sure on the spline counts but should this work as a direct swap? both are chrysler, just wondering on the splines and everything else hah

thanks, Austin

Oh, you didn't mention 4wd or not... unless that's what you mean by spline counts.

But no, the T-case behind your BA 10/5 will not bolt up to an AX-15. BA 10/5 is 21 spline output, AX-15 is 23 spline. The transfer case outputs will be the same though, for the driveshaft.

yes 4wd

i'm pretty sure i'm running an ax15 right now?

i'm confused on what a BA 10/5 is???

if i am running an ax15 will it match up? what will and what will not?

sorry i'm confused hah, just getting into this jeep thing

Nope... from 87-mid 89 the 4.0 got a Peugeot BA 10/5 5 speed transmission. It's a piece of junk, better served as a boat anchor. If you do have an AX-15 now, some PO swapped it in.

Here's how you can tell the difference : viewtopic.php?f=9&t=11699

The fact that you said the tranny is shot makes me think you have the BA 10/5. You have to try pretty hard to fry an AX-15.

looks like the BA10/5 or whatever it is then... damn

thank you guys, what would it take to convert it over to the ax15? just a new t-case?

direct bolt in?

If the guy has it working in his '95 Wrangler and is going to sell you the transmission plus the bellhousing, it'll be a direct bolt in. You'll need to find a transfer case with the 23-spline input shaft, though.
