Front 3" lift coil spring length

Recommended Posts

I have a new set of superlift coils for my comanche that I was going to install, but the springs are actually shorter than the OE ones side by side. They are a larger diameter so they will probably ride much stiffer. Aren't lift springs supposed to be longer to provide lift? If they are just a larger diameter isn't the ride going to suck? I am sure because they are stiffer that the body won't sag as much but it is going to ride like a tank.

The number on the box is 126 which matches their website for the lift but is this normal???

Are these springs just a cheap set and another company's longer and progressive to provide a great ride and taller height?

Thanks all,

It's all about "spring rate". If the lift coils were exactly like MJ coils, then logic would dictate that they would look longer than stock MJ coils when unsprung. But if the spring rate is higher (stiffer) then they don't have to necessarily be longer when laying there on the floor. Lift coils are typically stiffer than stock coils.

Well, just a spacer on top of your existing coils will keep the ride you have and get you the lift your looking for.

What the new coils will get you and if its something you will like is only known once you have them in and your driving on them.

If you forced my hand and I had to choose only one. I would recommend Old Man Emu springs and shocks to match.

If you have everything else you need and are just looking to swap springs now. I have always liked my Rubicon Express coils for the ride quality. They were a little too mushy for my liking once I tossed a heavy bumper and winch on the front. You should be able to find a used set in that size for about $100.
