'90 Comanche ideas and ?'s

Recommended Posts

So I got a '90 with the 4.0 Renix. 4x4. AX15 with NP231

How much different is the 4.0HO vs the 4.0L Renix?

Would the throttle body spacer and headers listed for '91+ work on mine?

Starting to read about bolt on parts to make things better and want to hear what folks think about these ideas.

Also just put in the 4x4 posi-lock and now have traction on winter Juneau roads.

Mustang 19# injectors, these are multiport and will increase mileage and power. ? Maybe?

Looking at building/buying a headlight loom to run brighter headlights.

Converting headlights to IPH H4. Not the cheesy ones.

2" lift, no big wheels or long travel suspension.

My truck is going to stay a daily driver, just would like to make things a little better without major surgery.

Not to many rock piles or swamps in Juneau either.

Thanks

The HO throttle bodies/intake manifolds are different. The 91+ throttle body components will not work on a renix 4.0.

The CAD going out on these trucks is a common problem. It was a good choice to go to a posi-lock setup to avoid vacuum problems. A lot of guys here (including myself back when I had a CAD axle) moved the E-clip or shimmed the CAD with washers to bypass the vacuum setup as well.

I know that there are 5.0 Ford injectors that work in our trucks and are said to increase performance. I am not sure of a part number or vehicle that the Ford injectors are put into. It could be the mustang?

After I got mine, I did a complete Royal Purple treatment, axels, tranny and transfer case.

I then pulled out all the backing under the rubber floor mat.

I still have floor pans so that was a nice surprise.

This summer I plan to paint the entire body, interior, and bed with Durbak.

The body is still solid and in good shape, need to keep it that way.

For your headlight upgrade, I would recommend getting in touch with this guy

and buying the HID kit from him. I had him install them on my MJ a few months ago, by far the BEST $125 I have ever spent on any modification. These lights are true HID's and make the lights on my 08 Caliber look nasty yellow.

They install in about 20 minutes as well, with no cutting or splicing.

As far as the headlight swap, here is what I found yesterday. It sounds like a worthwhile upgrade to me.

I can't say what works since I have not done any of these, but have fun.

the Ford injectors are 5.0L/4.6L bosch yellow top injectors. they are basically the bosch equivalent of your stock injectors. they are supposed to be more reliable then the siemens/deka injectors and have a better nozzle design.

they also tend to be cheaper then the OEM injectors but as far as power or fuel mileage improvements,i doubt you will notice any difference over a properly functioning OEM injector.

Not meaning to hijack, but what all is involved in the HID conversion?

Remove the old headlights

Install new housings that accept H4 bulbs

Insert HID bulbs into housings

Mount ballast to fenderwell

Plug old headlight harness into ballast

plug new ballast harness into HID bulbs.

Its really that simple, took no more than a half hour and its the best upgrade you can do for lighting. I can turn my 100 watt KC's on and barely notice them when my headlights are on. check out the link I posted, he has comparison pics.
