where is the best place to buy the plastic inner fenders for a 91 comanche, mine are brittle and broken. Will 97 and up fit? are they still available?

97+ are different due to the fender flares. They will fit but will leave a gap around the wheel opening. Best bet is to find a 96 XJ in the JY that still has good ones. I've seen them on Ebay from time to time. Since they are the same as the XJ's, dealership may still have them. :dunno:

RockAuto among others sells the aftermarket ones, and they work surprisingly well. They don't rot out or break apart with age as the stock ones do.

Do the Cherokee inner fender wells work? I have an 89 that could use the drivers side. B52nav

Yes - all XJ inner fender shields from 1984 - 1996 are the same and work fine in any MJ.

Why are they necessary? Mine were brittle and busted off and I never worried about replacement...although I don't live in the rust/salt belt either.

Their function in life is shielding, help to keep undesireables out of your engine bay, like rain, snow, slush, mud, road grime, etc. etc. that may affect your electronics. Keeps the engine compartment cleaner too.

I knew I could count on you for a good answer... I get very little rain, snow, slush, mud or road grim in my perfect CA utopia, so I won't worry about em..
