Would this be worth looking at for an Engine Tranny Swap...

No Pics Yet, but wanted to see if you guys thought it might be this might be a thought for an engine / tranny swap into mine (and then maybe a project besides). I've wanted an Auto anyhow... should be no real issues going 88 to 89 and I'd swap the entire engine tranny-tcase right over to mine

Man.......if you were closer to me.........

 

I've got all kinds of Donors, low mileage, just no steel holding them together any more :(

 

That MJ sounds too good to be a donor.........can't wait for the pictures to come thru.

 

And with the speakers toss in on the deal, I think a great price :yes:

 

So.......why not check that one out, do the couple repairs, and drive that one.

 

Oh, and if the engine only has 2500 miles........I wonder why he didn't replace the "known to fail" flex plate with the engine swap :hmm:

So far a typical Craigslist Flake... No reply to email

 

I"m not sure how well this would go over with the "Finance Department", but if he sends pics I'll post em... if it's nice and I can get him down a little bit maybe it's still a possibility.

It's hard for me to suggest an MJ as a drivetrain donor. That's what XJs are for. :D

 

Well, I could always stick my current drivetrain back into the "donor" and it wouldn't be a "donor" any more...That and I can't find 4x4 XJ's with recently rebuilt engines and tranny's for $1500

Agreed... I'd want the whole story and if he had done by local shop, I'll go talk to them, etc, etc. Since he doesn't reply to email or answer his phone it will probably never happen anyhow.

This guy is down to $750 and sounds like he is getting desperate to sell...said he has the paperwork on the engine "rebuild" and the tranny was a JY Swap... I could probably get for $500 but not sure it's worth it. He said it doesn't drive, "Flexpate issue" and it would have to be towed.

 

If it was a "real" engine rebuild, it might be worth it.

If it was a "real" engine rebuild, it might be worth it.

The flexplate issue is a valid issue, but it's a cheap fix -- especially if you'll have the engine and tranny out for a swap anyway. The center portion of the flexplate cracks, leaving the outer portion no longer connected to the engine. Usually makes a bad rapping noise that sounds a lot like a bad rod bearing. The solution is simply to replace the flexplate -- they're not that expensive.

 

The engine will run so you can check it out -- you just can't drive it. If he says the engine won't run, then either there's a bigger problem, or he drove it like that until the flex plate completely sheared off. Since the CPS gets its cues from the teeth on the rim of the flex plate, if the flex plate isn't still connected well enough to go around with the crankshaft there's no signal.

Thanks Eagle... I"m trying to find out just how desperate he is... if he will go $300-400, It would be hard to pass up.
