Another project in the making:

Picked up this 87 westy for parts today, paid $1150. Only one other person bid on it. NO ONE bid on it during the live auction, if the other person who put in a proxy bid of $1100 had not done so I might have gotten it for $50  oh well, can't look a gift horse in the mouth I suppose.

So now the plan is to find a good Syncro body(after doing the conversion on my Carat I'm not sure its worth the labor to do it on something other than a 4wd). And throw in a SVX motor after the westy conversion is done.

Best thing is it has a clean title, so I might be able to find a cheaper syncro without a title!

My grandparents owned one. They seem to be very popular vehicles among certain crowds. In fact there is one parked next to my jeep right now. :fs1: I also have seen the gowesty.com site and can't believe how much they sell for. They do have a lot of aftermarket parts which is neat. Newer appliances, rebuilt motors with more HP, etc..

Some may sell for $100k+, but they aren't in the condition yours is. How much money will it take to get it to the shape of one worth 100k?

None. I am only using the camper parts off of this one to convert a relativly cheap passenger syncro to a rare and expensive camper syncro.

I don't have any delusions. I don't think I'll be selling it for $120k. But it is reasonible to think that with a $5k investment it could sell for $20k.

Sure it's plenty of work, and I'm just wrapping up with all that work on a 2wd. I paid $1700 for that van. And now after all the work it's probably worth about 7-9k.

hmmm. the crack head renters across the street have one of those sitting on blocks in the back yard. Guess I should offer to take it off their hands when they're evicted/arrested.

is it a camper? There are plenty of old passenger vans that really aren't worth anything besides parts. IMO the passenger vans are worthless who need an underpowered, unreliable, expensive van like that?

Oh man, I'm so jealous. We looked around for a westy for a long time and never found one in our price range that was even running.

Not to mention a synchro westy. That's gonna be a fun van to drive around in after that SVX conversion. Put out more power than those smaller 4 bangers the smaller subies had (like my OBS).

Congrats and I basically don't like you.

Congrats and I basically don't like you.

That's fine, I'm used to it being that way.

But I do like your van, does that count?

Sure, did you see my other van build up thread?

No I didn't. Is it on CC?

Thats the first one I converted for my dad to live in out in california. Still needs some things wrapped up, but it will be nice when done.

Note: Pics may or may not work depending on if I have the Xbox or my server plugged into the ethernet.
