Roof Rack?

I've been wanting to put a roof rack on my comanche, but obviously they don't make one. I was looking at a rack similar to this and was thinking with a little fabbing could make it work.

 

 

I don't know if anyone has tried this or not, but just an idea that popped in the ol dome.

I have had the same idea, but I haven't pursued it, either. All it needs is four feet to hold it to the rain gutter.

jeepcomj's brother put a rack on his MJ that looks good. That one would look real good if you can fab something up, it looks like a smaller version of the ones you see on alot of Grand cherokees.

You could probably find a rack mounting kit for an XJ, and make it work for the MJ...

 

Should be the same gutter rack...

Yea, i figured i would do gutter mounts, if i can find an old roof rack to cut them off of, or i'll just fab some up, shouldn't be too hard

here's a pic of Yakima 1A gutter mounts just for reference. I kinda thought the whole thing would sit too high for my liking and the basket would have to be pretty narrow. Not sure if there are any shorter gutter mounts. I know someone posted a modified Yakima basket at one time and I thought it looked pretty good. I started to do this project as well, because I had a Yakima Loadwarrior basket. I decided to sell the basket instead.
