Twisty
the gray interior of my MJ is in rough shape. the previous owner has screwed a CB radio into the dash, and it looks terrible. ive just started disasembling my dash in my 1990 XJ, and i was wondering if its possible to remove this Image Not Found its kind of a bad picture, but its the best i have. if you don't get what i mean, i will take a better pic. basicaly its just the whole dashboard. its plastic so i know its not part of the unibody. should i be looking for screws? thanks
Pete M
I bought a black carpet cover for my dash. :D My brain says that I have a grey one in the garage somewhere... :brows:
Oizarod115
your best bet would be to pull out the gauge bezel and look to see if the screws can be accessed that way. i would imagine thats where they are. not sure but the gauge bezel is easy enough to pull. DirtyComanche
That part is riveted in, IIRC. I never took it out on mine. You have to tear the whole steering out.
BIGHEEP
I took the whole dash out in my XJ. There are screws at the base of the windshield and a couple bolts on the underside of the dash. Just an FYI... I took the top screws out with the windsheild removed. With the windshield still in I bet its a PITA. You will have to remove the gauge bezel, gauge cluster, lower dash panel, disconnect all the wires and heater controls before you can get the upper dash off. You might even have to drop the steering colum.
Eagle
The entire dash comes out, and for those who know how to do it, it's quick and easy. Kevin, the lead mechanic at my dealership, does 'em lickety-split. The rest of us, though, would really benefit from reading up on it in a FSM before proceeding. There aren't all that many screws and bolts, but a few are hiding in unexpected places, and those few can match the job a real pregnant dog.
