Oizarod115
I think i need an intervention. I've been volvo nuts (and busy with a new girl) for a few months now which has led to me being absent! BUT I STILL LOVE THE MANCHE! however due to the daily driver i can now build it and do what it was meant for! :clapping: pics of the volv to come. NICE car. 297,XXX on the odometer and never missed a single oil change, i have all the service records, picked it up in good running condition with cold a/c and nice michelins for 1000 bucks. WahooSteeler
A mechanic at a volvo/bmw shop I've gone to has a volvo 240 with a small block 400 it it......little bit of a sleeper :brows:
Oizarod115
yeah, i've got pics of a 740 turbo wagon, with a mustang 5.0L and automatic in it, my boss put that one and a 240(2 door one) together like that and the 240 has had 150,000 on it since the swap was done. i'm not out there, just a volvo mechanic that got a sweet deal on my boss's old car and he got a sweet deal on it from the original owner. a 1000 for the car was an absolute steal. its crazy how fun the car is to drive, turbo 2.3L with the 4speed is nice. pulls STRONG in overdrive lay into it and she'll climb til you don't want to go any faster oh and she does a litttle better on fuel but not much, getting 22-23.5 out of her in pretty heavy traffic PICS! Image Not Found first day i bought it Image Not Found couple weeks into it, nothign done yet Image Not Found cut the coils about 1.5" and tinted the windows (20%) Image Not Found sitting in the girly's drive
TNT
So hows the power on that boxy sedan??? You shold be able to get more boost out of the turbo. 1 psi increase = about 10hp.
Oizarod115
So hows the power on that boxy sedan??? You shold be able to get more boost out of the turbo. 1 psi increase = about 10hp. its rated at 165hp/5100rpm 195lbft/3400rpd boost factory is 10.5 and they offered a turbo+ kit and a ++ kit that upped it to 12.5 and 15 respectively. so i suppose 14-15psi is perfectly acceptable, i want to get a gauge on it and see what it's putting out in real life, the boost gauge doesn't have numbers on it. i could tweak on it but the turbo, engine, manifolds, all of it has 297,000 on it, nothing has ever been rebuilt and it doesn't smoke or anything so for now i'm leaving it be. its a miniature garrett turbo, tb2543 is the garrett number i guess it's a good one since its lasted so long without blowin oil past
TNT
About 15 psi is max on that turbo. That would put you over 200hp & 250# of torque probably at the wheels. Find out what the kit consisted of because you don't want to go lean. That would increase the fun factor. You could probably walk 5.0 Mustangs and such. dfreeman616
my parents have a 1993 940 wagon, NA...nice enough car, lots of room under the hood to make it a sleeper. auto transmissions are AW's like our Jeeps. dependable as all get out when they're maintained. i don't have a link, but there's a mag called "the brick" that my dad gets about volvos. Joop
Congrats with your new ride, thats gotta the cleanest looking 740 i have ever seen!! Been DD a 850 with the 170hp NA engine for the last 4 years, and i don't think i will ever consider anything else. 335000km and it looks, sounds and feels like new. Take good care of it, and it will probably serve you well for a long time! Note: taking good care of a old volvo does not rule out some engine tweeking :brows:
