MancheKid86
well no pictures, but some results, built a platform that mounted onto my jack, lowered the transmission out to find that there was some bent fingers on the clutch plate, is that a big concern? if so how can i bend them back? took the bellhousing off of the transmission and I'm wondering how to test the clutch with it? :help:
dasbulliwagen
If you have bent fingers on the pressure plate, you will need a new pressure plate. I don't see it being safe or reliable just trying to bend it back. Those are made of spring steel and if bent, the pressure plate should be replaced. And mocking up with just the bellhousing... remove the bellhousing from the trans. With your clutch and pressure plate properly mounted, bolt the bellhousing to the engine, bolt your slave cylinder to the bellhousing, and then have someone inside the truck to operate the clutch pedal. You will need a clutch alignment tool first to properly align the clutch plate, but at this point you will need it to see if the clutch spins freely while the clutch pedal is depressed. If while the pedal is depressed the plate will not spin, you have other problems... wrong throwout bearing, bent pressure plate fingers, improperly mounted throwout lever. With just the bellhousing mounted you will be able to watch and see what is happening and beable to fix and adjust as needed without hefting the whole trans. When you get everything working good, them remount the bellhousing to the trans and reinstall the trans. I hope this helps, as I have never done this before, but completely understand the concept. Good luck. I'm sure if I'm wrong someone will let you know!
Eagle
Yes, bent fingers are a concern. And I don't think you can bend them back. You have to remember that the clutch is under a tremendous amount of pressure. There are a LOT of little coil springs inside there, and they are all pretty strong. I would be very concerned that fingers that had been bent and then straightened would be weakened and could fail in operation. I would not want any part of a clutch coming unglued at 3,000 RPM -- that's right next to my feet, and I'me grown rather fond of having my feet in one piece. MancheKid86
was revising the information provided to me, and i seen this little bit There should be a little plastic tip at the end of the pushrod for the slave cylinder. If that's not there, it may not push it far enough to disengage since it's a new clutch. found it inside the bellhousing when i dropped my transmission, it may help? :P

MancheKid86
well i havent taken it in yet, but upon further inspection, i found that the clutch plate was over torqued in some places, and not even finger tight in others, i guess i learnt my lesson, do all the work yourself to ensure it is done properly and by the book also the fingers were all bent, was hoping that wouldnt be too much of a problem but i guess it was, once this beast is running, ill make close friends with the car yard owner and take the 2 4wd manches off his hands :D
Eagle
Bummer. They make torque wrenches and the manuals publish torque specs for a reason, but it doesn't help if the guy doing the work doesn't bother to follow the specs. If some of those bolts were only finger tight, it may be a hidden blessing that it didn't work, because you could have been driving around with a hand grenade under your feet. MancheKid86
found a steal of a deal on the net, literally, a website i stumbled upon had an act heavy duty clutch kit for my manche, but the website didn't put a price for it so i only have to pay $10 for shipping, which they e-mailed me a receipt of, and once i send in a $10 money order then they will send me the clutch :D lol its worth a try and if they call me on it ill send them they copy of the receipt they gave me showing them i only owed them $
MancheKid86
i finally found out the problem!! i took my old clutch plate and put it onto the new preasure plate, the new one was too big! now that i know that, it makes tons of sense. itwasnt because it was damaged, it was because they sent me the wrong one, but i don't have the reciept to send it back, i don't even remember where i ordered it from, well its all good, i get an actual clutch that works within the next week
