Pete M
XJ 4 door seats don't lean forward. Power XJ seats do not separate from their tracks. The best seats are non-power 2 door XJ or just get MJ buckets. If you go XJ, I think it's as simple as keeping your bench's floor brackets and bolting them to the XJ seat's frame. Also, bucket MJ/XJs come with a plastic sheath around the female end of the seat belt so it doesn't fall to the floor all the time. And if you go with the full center console, don't forget to snag the metal bracket that attaches the rear of the console to the floor (it'll be screwed to the floor). And if your bench is in good shape, remember to take a picture and see if anyone wants it. car-part.com might help you find some seats. pingpong
nice pic.... it might help ppl visualize it. Also Jegs sells a set of universal seat pedistals that could be modded to work on the MJ. Patrick
DirtyComanche
I think we should sticky up the most common questions... Although Pete seemingly has no issues with padding his post count. :D
XJ Maki
Here's a nice write-up by Rick from the yahoo group about the XJ Bucket swap...hope he doesn't mind my posting a link to his page. 8) http://www.geocities.com/xjs4ever/seats_console.html
Pete M
I think we should sticky up the most common questions... Although Pete seemingly has no issues with padding his post count. :D Except that there are dozens of common questions and no guarantee that the next question about swapping seats will be exactly like this one. Feel free to remind everyone that we have a search feature, but I prefer to take each case as it comes in. 8) I've never liked post counts so believe me, if I could get rid of it I would. I don't feel they add anything to the discussions. Jeep on! --Pete

Jax MJ Luvr
I agree with a prior post, since this seems to be a very common mod, which I'm still wanting to do, just haven't found the right buckets. I'm nearly done with my carpet and mini center console, I absolutely hate the bench seat. Thanks for the extra info and links :D
Honchojeep
Keep in mind that the risers in the floor of the MJ over the uniframe are higher and in a different place than the XJ. The rear mounts (studs) are in different places as well. I rebuilt my floorboard and formed my new pieces with the expectation of throwing out a set of MJ mounts and using good XJ mounts that I had here. We ended up welding new floor tabs onto the MJ pieces. The XJ pieces wouldn't straddle the rise due to the rise being in the wrong place and weren't deep enough to sit on the floor either. I used the brackets from the MJ bench and the XJ seats fit fine, except they wound up being too tall for me. (head on the ceiling)
