cmcolfax Posted June 29, 2006 Share Posted June 29, 2006 Well, new here... and new to MJ's. But not Jeeps. My name is Chuck. I'm a firefighter in Henrico County, VA. I've had a coupla CJ-7's, a coupla YJ's, an XJ, a ZJ as a DD and just accquired a 1990 MJ. The basics: 1990 Base model. 2.5L AX-5 NP231 D30 / D35 (But y'all knew most of that.) Body and bed are kinda rough, engine and drive train seem to be pretty good. The plan is to use it for a while as a "utility truck" until it eventually donates it's heart and soul (engine and drivetrain) to my next YJ project. It runs good, shifts well and stops fine. The problem is, it does not steer worth a damn. (See related thread in tech.) Short term projects are: Clean 5+ years worth of crud off of everything. It sat untouched at a farm for the past 5 years or so. Degrease engine compartment and undercarriage. Figure out how to get smell of mouse poop out of interior. Swap musty, stinky cloth bench seat out, replace with spare XJ bucket seats. Good old-fashioned "tune up". Cap, rotor, plugs, wires, air filter, fuel filter, & oil change. Prolly won't bother with changing tranny / xfr and diff fluids yet... just make sure they are full. Figure out what else it will need to pass inspection... last one was 2003. Anyway, just introducing m'self.
