Kenosha Warrior Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Just finished r/r'ing my front coils on the MJ. Jebus H was it ever a pain. I opted to do it with a trolley Jack, bottle jack, prybar and my handy hooked-crowbar. The swaybar came off and the calipers got shuffled off and 2 days later its all back together. Good learning experience. Handtools. The way real men hurt themselves.
Oizarod115 Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 not that much fun... you can rent a spring compressor thats much easier than doing it without. or pull the whole axle out is how we usually do it :wavey:
BLHTAZ Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 I have never done a coil spring truck without the assistance of a lift and air tools. I can imagine that it must have been a real PITA to do like that
mjeff87 Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 work smarter, not harder (you can drink more beer that way :D ) a small bottle jack is your friend......use it inbetween the axletube and the framerail to push the axle down and hold it there while you slip the springs out and back in, like such: Image Not Found
Kenosha Warrior Posted November 13, 2008 Author Posted November 13, 2008 thats how I did'er Jeff. My arse is sore today from sitting on cold ashphalt for 2 nights in a row, but the truck sits nicer now.
aemsee Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 You did unscrew the bump stop cups, correct? Just asking cause I see they are still on in the pics posted by Jeff.
Pete M Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 I believe that pic is of my 90. My arse is sore today from sitting on cold ashphalt for 2 nights in a row, but the truck sits nicer now. You'd be amazed at the comfort level difference afforded by a couple layers of good cardboard. :D
Mr_Random Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 It becomes an art to get it done fast, I swapped mine in an hour! My parents didn't even know I was outside until I came in all greasy and crap. But yeah, unbolted shocks, swaybar, and a bottle jack did me right!
mjeff87 Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 I believe that pic is of my 90. Yup, sure is...you took such a nice pic I saved it for posterity's sake :D
