Kenosha Warrior Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 The dude I got my truck from has the shift-plate (Or gear selector) from a 3spd Cherk in my AW-4 MJ. How do you get the 'T' piece off so I can switch the panel?
Akula69 Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Ya know, I have looked in all the FSM's I own for that answer, 'cause I need it as well. I pulled the right end (non-button end) cap off and then tried pushing the exposed white plug. It released the push button on the other side, but did not release the top part of the T. Hopefully one of these really smart guys will come along and answer this one
mjeff87 Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Pull straight up on it.....carefully. It's just a snug press-fit, but when it releases from the shaft, you can hurt yourself ;) Jeff
Wildman Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 2X's on Pulling it straight up.........really hard.......and brace your self when it lets go, you'll be surprised
Lewt2007 Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 yank as hard as you can and it will just pop right off
bn6339 Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 When the lever pops free, MAKE SURE you DO NOT strike the windshield.....don't ask me how I knew this....TWICE!! d'oh!
KillerCOM Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 watch you face too. i laugh my a** off when my dad did that. lol. :D
mfpdm Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Yep, just yank it. :D For best results, put on foot on the passenger side and one in the drivers side, stand straight up over the shifter, and yank as hard as you can. Once you regain consciousness, go get some ice for your nads. J/K :D I found it best to put the shifter in 1 and then pull it. Works really well in an XJ because you can get in the back seat, but does work just as good in the MJ.
