BookspanS Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 Ok guys...as you can probably already realize...I am a HUGE noob  when it come to workin on the manche. I helped my dad with a 99 cougar and a 81 delorean. So I gonna be askin for ALOT of help  . BUT.... how good is 3.54/1 axle ratio?
Pete M Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 All depends on what you plan to do with it.
BookspanS Posted September 28, 2008 Author Posted September 28, 2008 its my rear and for the moment its 2WD...Should i swap it when i do my tranny sway or will it be good to keep for hittin the hills....the really muddy SC hills.
Pete M Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 With bigger tires, more gearing is always better. That said, I think you'll be fine with the 3.54s.

Better than 3.07, not as good as 3.73/4.10/4.54...Depends on your tire size and if you are roading it or not... My MJ has 3.07's and it would suck balls for offroading, but probably better on road. My TJ has 3.07's and when I went to 33" tires it was basically undriveable (felt like I was at 1/2 power). I have 4.56's now and it's a little too low for 33's (with my 3sp Auto), but will be better when I move to 35's. Does/Did the DMC have a Flux Capacitor? There is a local club that goes thru the local parade every year

The originals used AMC engines, which were bullet-proof and bomb-proof.
BookspanS Posted September 28, 2008 Author Posted September 28, 2008 It was an AMC...the engine was fine....just all the parts GOING to the engine were messing up...alternator mostly (from a caddy)
Sir Sam Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 ..........basically undriveable (felt like I was at 1/2 power). I have 4.56's now and it's a little too low for 33's (with my 3sp Auto), but will be better when I move to 35's. Time for an AW4 swap.
mvusse Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 Back on topic, I have the 4.0/AW4 and 3.55 gears with 29" tires. It does fine for me. When I move up to 33s I might want to regear, though.
