steering colum question?

OK I know most things are interchangeable between XJ amd MJ from the doors forward However my local junk yard says that the steering colums are NOT!!!

 

What I want to know is if i find a XJ colum from similar years will they be a direct swap in to my 88 MJ ???

The only one that can't be replicated out of an XJ is the one for an automatic with column shift. There were no XJs with column shift (well, except for some fleet vehicles, but it's highly unlikely you'll find on in a JY).

In autos I would have preferred the column shift, I'm surprised that they didn't make that an option in the XJ like they did in the mj.

Yelp.. their the same.. I've swapped a newer model into my truck. I think it was a 94 , it has the two sided key (chrysler type) I did have to zip tie the auto park rod though, because the column was out of a automatic XJ.
