Phoenix of Fury
Genuine, Precision, Yukon... does it make a difference? Looking to regear my axles to 4.88 to get the power back. I've heard "Yukon is the best, stick with them", but they're also the most expensive. Perhaps just heresy? If they're installed correctly, does it make a difference? Has anyone had any bad experiences with one brand over another? Strangely enough, information regarding this seems to be hard to find.
DirtyComanche
I've always bought yukons. Yukon makes the OEM gearsets for Dana now, apparently... So that's got to be worth something.
pingpong
I know of one person who broke a set of genuine gears. sheared the pinion. I know of another person who broke a set of yukons, but by the way the teeth were broke it looked like a bad install
BLHTAZ
I have used gears from all those manufacturers and had no trouble with any of them. I have Genuine Gears in my 2002 Ram right now as I upgraded it to 4.10 for the 3.55 it came with. They have been in there for 5 years now and have towed our trailer/Wrangler to 3 different states to go wheelin' over the years. The 4.56 gears in the YJ are also Genuines and have been in there for over 7 years and many rock crawlin' runs without issue.

First time I've heard that. What I've heard previously is that Yukon buys gears and repackages them, leaving you with no idea who made them. I don't know which is correct. I don't buy Yukon, I buy Dana-Spicer. If they are made by Yukon, so be it -- at least I have some assurance that Dana-Spicer will stand behind their brand. pingpong
I have never had a problem with Yukon honoring their warranty. I personally broke a inner chromoloy axle shaft from them. I called the retailer I bought it from, and they had a new one on the shelf... so they just exchanged it for my broke one. Maybe it was my retailer being a stand up guy... possum
I have had good luck with my Auburn gearset.
LoTGoD
Per a few guys at Superior, all gears are made at the same plant in India or China (I can't remember which). So if you buy Superior, Yukon, Genuine, they all come from basically the same place, just a different package.
