  1. How much does the cab flex relative to the chassis? What are the consequences of bracing the back of the cab? I’ll start with the disclaimer that I am not building a proper roll cage – I’m approaching this as a “cab saver” that could probably save my life in a pinch. This means that there are compromises from structural “ideals” in the name of aesthetics. Here are my requirements: Minimal “verticals” to sit outboard of the body. Bed will be in the factory position (I am open to a < 1/2” adjustment rearward by slotting the bolt holes on the chassis side.) Bed will have a tonneau cover; no pass throughs into the bed. My solution for the rear is a lower support structure fabricated from .188” wall 2x1 rec tubing. This will sandwich between the cab and the bed and provide “perches” below the rear glass for the tubular cage. It will tie into my tube rockers and the top of the frame rails. What I can't decide is if I should I weld this structure to the back of the cab, or leave it freestanding. I'm prone to weld it, but should I worry about inducing some kind of stress elsewhere? In a "lean against a a tree" scenario, am I asking to bust the glass out? At full flex, will the welds to the rockers and the frame be stressed and crack?
  2. Recent accident damaged the front end and looks like the front brace on the unibody frame is broken. 86’ 2.5L manual 4x4 What are my options? Do I need a full frame replacement? Can I just get the front piece replaced? Most posts I’ve found suggest getting a donor car and replacing them quickly down the rabbit hole of just upgrading to a 4.0L. I can post a pic once I get home.
  3. Just purchased my second Comanche, 91 Eliminator shortbed 4x4 4.0 I6 HO, Ax15, and the metric ton package (dana 44!). Bought it for $1000 runs great only 168k on it and all stock. Problem is floorboards and rockers are gone. (Literally holes you can stick your leg through) I have replacements for both those but came across a rotten frame. Leaf spring and shackles are fine just drivers side is rotted up to the brake lines and a pretty decent size hole. Has anyone repaired a unibody? I know you can strengthen them with unibody supports but anyone do something different?
  4. So I bought this Comanche about a year ago, after a long day of wheeling maybe 6 months ago the rusty unibody cracked. I have begun restoring the jeep and have plans for a whole frame build.
