  1. Looks like that works really well. Are you re-pinstriping it? Ill have to get one of those.
  2. nice write up on your build. I hope to start my front bumper soon can't wait!!
  3. the upgrade is a really good one and easy to do. mines done
  4. I have a questionable O2 sensor that I am trying to figure out if it is bad and needs replaced or if there is a way to test it. I have it out and would like to know if I can test it out of truck. I know they are only around 30-35 bucks but trying to keep from buying things I may not really need at this time. I also would like to know if it is bad what problems would occur with a bad O2 sensor? As of now when it gets to Operating temp it will not go past idle, but will idle all day long.
  5. awsome getting some really helpful info thanks I hadnt even thought about the arch difference Thanks for pointing that out. Another buddy said maybe one fix would be just to swap the complete leaf pack from a Cherokee and cut the eyes off and use the complete pack as a replacement and just keep the top spring, Ill prob have to use some taller shackles but that would be OK. I'm really trying to keep this trucks expenses to a minimum. Ill prob only drive it through the winter. It has been a good Project truck. I did a lift on the front and added about 4.5 inches so what if I just swap out the bad spring and do the spring over??? :driving: This way Ill have the front a little lower keep the rear a little taller??
  6. Let me clarify If I used the truck to carry anything heavier than I would have hauled in a Cherokee than I see your point . I won't be carrying anything heavier than I would have hauled in a Cherokee so untill I can get the actual weight cap. of a Cherokee , well I see it like if I carry anything larger than three adults + full rear hatch of stuff in a Cherokee then maybe but I see the possibility of spring swap going easier than paying for a new set. I also noticed that I would be able to get the front spring mount almost flush with the frame better clearance . I was told once if you don't like the original design do it the way you want . Geonovast if you have the capicity of the factory springs that would be helpful Thanks . My truck is a 2.5 5 speed so it shouldnt be rated to carry that much weight :dunno: . On our old Cherokee 97 we had a boat and full of camping gear prob. never have any more in it than that.
  7. I have a comanche that has a broken spring and although its not the top spring, I would like to consider the possibility of relocating the rears leaf spring front mount. I thought about doing this since Cherokee spring packs are readily available and I can get them for a fraction of having a new set made one that won't be already sagging from years of use. The reason for this is I can get the parts way cheaper than replacing the stock sagging comanche springs I would really like some constructive critisism(???) on this subject and for some help from anyone who may have some measurements that I have taken but others would be helpful. Please just stick to the idea like there were no comanche springs letf on the face of the earth  . Lets see if I can get this to happen.
  8. I will test the MAT sensor and see if that could be it. We'll see
  9. please delete
  10. I got the truck out yesterday. same problem . I have came to one conclusion that it still could be the sensor or maybe the fuel pump. if the wires had there insulation melted back it could have damaged the sensor or the fuel pump is weak. I tested the fuel presure and got nothing with the ign on but got 16 psi. with it on then real quick bleed off like 5 psi. before I could look at the gauge. then bleeds off to nothing in seconds not min. what do you think.
  11. well I replaced the dist. and rotor running much better . Have had it replaced for about two weeks and with rain and high humidity it has been running really good.
  12. I may have found the problem . The Manifold Air Temperature MAT . I noticed that the wire was exposed on both wires. I havent been able to drive it yet but hope to soon.
  13. thanks automan That is just what I am looking for. I can agree that it is more work but this truck is the one thing I have that I can tinker with and do things like this. The diagrams would be great. I will be swaping the TC out and the front axle to a non CAD since mine will cost more to repair than swap a newer front axle into so since I will be getting rid of the CAD and vacume crud, I decided it would be a good time to do the spedo swap and since I have4 a newer Cherokee Dash above in my garage I will be switching the dash and retrofitting the gauges I want into a custom dash. Yea tons of work ahead but I'm looking forward to it and all the knowledge I can get .
  14. I am actually thinking about finding a NP 231 to replace the 207 1 since the 207 has the vacume attachments for the CAD 2 because I would like to get a TC that I can just use an existing electronic spedo set-up so Ill see what I can do . Thanks again Kastein
  15. Kastein thank you for your answer. I wish it was a little easier than having people tell me what they think I should do. Kastein you seem to have figured it out from the begining. and Yes it has a 207 TC in it unless I was blinded by the light I was looking at the tag in :wall: :wall: :grrrr:
  16. What I am trying to do is replace a 87 that has a cable driven spedo with a electronic spedo, so as to eliminate the cable spedo. The PO has disconnected the cable spedo and the center part that is supposed to go into the TC is gone . So I would have to find a replacement cable. If I can I would prefer to install the electronic one. also this truck has a 207 transfer case in it with the AX-5.
  17. I would like to know if anyone has started a thread about converting a cable driven spedo to an electronic spedo with parts from another jeep???
  18. could this be the cause of my problem with it not going any higher than idle once the truck is up to temp???
  19. What sensor is this it is on a 87 MJ 2.5 with a AX5 trans and 4X4. It is located on the far rear of the intake manifold. the insulation on the wires is gone and I have been having a problem with the truck not going past idle after its warmed up. I disconnected the O2 sensor when I brought it home and it ran fine but after that back to its old ways . Could this sensor possibly caused my problems? The wires were touching when I noticed them. I know I could just go drive it but the front end is apart right now so I can't do that yet. Image Not Found you can actually see where the wires were touching ??? I really hope this was the root of the problem....
  20. Just to let anyone with this same problem know that yes a coil from the earlier renix will work in the four cylinder or inline 6 :USAflag:
  21. I would check the coil I just this problem with mine. I swaped the coil out and fixed it right away then to test the old one I put it back in and then it wouldnt start again . I ended up leaving the one that worked in it and it has ran great since then.
  22. Let me clarify a little better I have two MJs. The one I'm throwing a lift together for is just a truck to do lots of building experimenting on, thats why I am just throwing a lift together for it. The least amount of money the better. The daily driver is the one I will do the work on after messing with the beater.
  23. Well its not that I want a AAL if I had it my way I would have new springs made, do a spring over and be done but since I have came across a cherokee in the local JY that has this lift on it and the truck itself has became more of a fun truck not like my other MJ that I am trying to do it up nice as a daily driver. This truck will be my step sons and mine project something for him to learn more on and not be as concerned as to how it turns out. I may end up doing a spring over anyway since the front should end up with about 4-6 inches of lift(assuming since its from a JY). :clapping:
  24. Can a add-a-leaf from a Cherokee be used in a MJ. not sure why it wouldnt but thought I would ask to see if this will work before pulling from JY?
  25. I just had my 87 MJ's coil go bad. My question is I would like to know if I would be able to pull one from a inline 6 and use it . I realize the spark would be more with a coil from a 6 but I would like to know if anyone else has done this. I hope that it is possible so I can just get a JY one, and use it for now . Luckily I have another MJ in the garage I was able to steal the coil from and thats how I knew it was bad.
