  1. What about trowing a firestik II antenna in one of the holes in the bed walls? I don't know of any other use for the holes...
  2. Bolt thickness? Luckily, I have some laying around, and they are 1/2" thick, 5/8" head, entire length is 5-3/4", with 1-3/4" threaded I beleive 14 threads per inch. Want a picture?
  3. Wish I would have known, I was about to cut the welds for the hinges on the XJ, but it was near my deadline, and I didnt think twice about it, so off to the yard they went with the XJ. If my buddy has not crushed it yet, I may be up there next week, or the week after with my sawzall to make the fastest work of them, when I drop off some more metal. Speaking of sawzalls, mine came with 2 18v batteries (I do a good deal of field work, so cordless was essential) it's trusty, but 2 batteries run out too fast. I need more... Anyone know where to get the 18v +1 batteries by Ryboobi (Ryobi) cheaper than like near 28/battery? I need at least 6 total batteries to have charged at any one time to make trips more worth while. Maybe I should just save my cash, and get a generator for the MJ, so I can run power tools off it, and charge batteries in the field. Generator along side OBA would mean portable plasma cutter as well. :D
  4. So the pics are now up, located here
  5. Both, I Will probably fab something nice up.
  6. Ok, so what else is at my availibility, or is it custom fabbing time to make some bombproof flares?
  7. I rescued it, after a guy tried to have me fix a few things, convert to 4x4, and he even wanted me to sell it to him for $500 bucks, well under the $1300 or so I had invested in new parts. I'll upload some pics in a little bit of it, as it sits.
  8. I want those Moab rims, BAD! The styling for rims on your MJ is my MJ's role model. Same with the front clip.
  9. Well, I might as well get started on the thread. Current Stats: 1988 MJ $500, 2-3yrs ago 2wd Ghetto 4" RE drop bracket lift from about 14yrs ago. Whats in the works: 10yr upgrade, including the following: Seats Dash Engine Transmission (Possibly a 231/300 doubler) Transfer case Wiring Front clip - 97+XJ style Taillights - 97+XJ style Bumpers - Custom Upper/Lower Adjustable Control Arms "Cab extension" Rims/tires Sound system Light Bar (KJ style. I got the idea from someone on here, or on cardomain) Roof Rack Some pics can be found here, a few months after I bought it. More pics can be found here, as it sits now. More pictures will be coming as time/mods happen.
  10. I agree, find out what type of steel they use. before buying. Nothing beats finding out the control arms are made out of pot metal, and will snap like a 20yr old rotted twig when you hit a pebble in the road. I'm sure they'd never be quite that weak, but it's good to know that you have some strength under you.
  11. I might have some from my old 93 XJ. I'm pretty sure I just saw it the other day.
  12. go out, and get some sheetmetal, bend/fab to your needs (its not that hard, really!) and mount some LED lights in it. Just wait till my MJ is done. It will have the 97+xj tails blended into it, as well as the new front clip.
  13. Yea, we have rubi flares on our YJ, and they work weel, and function great, however, I'm not using wrangler style flares on the MJ, I want it to look pretty good, and I'm not a fan of the wrangler flares on anything but a wrangler. Are there any other options for flares? I have yet to find anything besides bushwacker and rustys, and some company that makes some stupid fiberglass ones.
  14. Lookin good.
  15. I'm considering getting them, however, I am uncertain of their durability, say if I were to hit a tree, somewhat hard, but not enough to dent a fender, would a rusty's flare crack, or will they flex enough in most cases that cracking usually is not a worry? Or should I save up and get bushwackers for the 2dr cherokee to mount on the comanche? (they should fit, right?)
  16. picture would help, if at all possible.
  17. When I dropped the tank from my 98 xj, it was full, less maybe 2 gallons max, and I put the tank on a ATV jack, and then cut the bolt parts themselves with an angle grinder, I then went around back, and sliced the pin ends from the strap ends, so that the straps would fit through the rear crossmember. You should be able to adapt my idea from an xj tank to an mj tank. I just have the ghetto harbor freight ATV jack. it's nice, because the tank is held level, and doesnt wobble all around and stuff.
  18. I have a 21 and a 23 spline 231's sitting around, so either way, output is not a problem for me. Thanks for the answers!
  19. The 98 XJ I got for parts has a tranny with a spent input shaft. It's an AW4. My buddy has an AW4 out of a 96. I know 97+ XJ's, the ECU will pull tranny codes if the tranny is missing, or disconnected or something. Would just dumping a 96 AW4 into the MJ be fine, as in the ECM will not throw codes, as the tranny is present, and plugged in? Reason I ask this is because within a few weeks, I will be putting the 98's engine, wiring, and interior and stuff into my MJ, and I want to make sure the trannies are compatible. If it's not just bolt and go, can I take the electronics and valve body of the one with the spent input shaft, and put those into the tranny with the good mechanical and good input shaft? Or, should I rebuild the 98's tranny with the 96's input shaft in order to have a single good working AW4?
  20. With all the 10yr upgrade cherokees, mine will be at most, minimally different, so I'll just do some before and after shots. I did cut the section of roof, behind the rear seats, alont with the window, and hatch off the XJ I have, and that is going to be a little project to "extend" cab space in the MJ. Essentially, I will finish it off fairly nicely, so that it will bolt to the bed of the comanche, and tightly seal against the cab with regular door weatherstripping around the edges. This way, I can either leave the cab's sliding window open, or take the window out completely for a bit more "in cab" space. it will allow for regular use of the bed under where it will mount, so long as I can hack the xj fuel pump into the mj's tank. Otherwise, I will figure out how to get the xj tank under the bed, behind the rear axle in the spare tires area.
  21. No clue how to rebuild one, but I have one if you want it cheap.
  22. like 25 total spot welds to drill out on that steering column bracket... Its the last thing to pull besides the hood. I got the other 2 brackets off, and the drill bit needs a good sharpening/replacement if its going to get through another hole. I'll start pulling all the stuff from the MJ probably next weekend. It will all be donated to a small buggy project.
  23. I have a 242 case that got snapped in half. all the internals seem to be in great shape. if you can take a picture of what you need, you can have the part(s) for like $5 a large part and shipping.
  24. Brought my 98 XJ home yesterday, gutted it yesterday and today, just down to stuff under the hood, and the axles. Front axle has a very noticeable bend to it from it's 40mph accident. I think it will only be good for calipers, stub shafts, nd not much more. Only things left in the interior to do are getting a few brackets out, heater box, and the rear doors, hatch, and sunroof. I'd say for the 12hrs total I have spent so far, the gutting is coming along very nicely. Anything I should watch out for that I have not gotten to yet?
  25. Not only is it my plan to make it look like a 98, but it's got a nice set of rubbers rolling in at the 40" mark. Axles are yet to be chosen, but in the line of consideration are a matched set of 60s for $250 (got lucky too, they are 79 Ford D60s with kingpin and HP), or a matched set of 14 Bolts for about $100. Prices don't reflect condition in any way. My mom's buddy owns a junk yard, so cheap parts are pretty sweet. Suspension will be a custom designed 3 link, with a full sub frame to make the Jeep even stronger, and also to reduce stress directly to the unibody. It will probably have some sort of a coil setup front and rear until I can afford some nice coilovers. My main concern is getting the 98's engine and wiring and interior in, but it should be rolling on the 40's by summer's end. I just see the 97-01 mods as the way Jeep should have designed them. They are so much more styled and up to date.
