  1. So it all began with just fixing it up to be able to drive it. I at first intended for it just to be a winter beater. Then that modding/upgrading bug hit me. When I bought the thing it had a blown rear end and a few other problems. For the fun of the rear end fix check out http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3785&highlight= So far it has the new xj rear axle in and interoir vacuumed up. mice made a nest in the thing, it smelled nasty. So the list of things to do is 1. Front xj axle needs to be installed. 2.The back passenger side was hit pretty good. so a new bumper and some body work. 3.the bed has the tipical rust over the wheel so that will have to be fixed. 4.I found some xj bucket seats for $45 each, so those need to be installed. 5.Sound system needs to be updated 6. custom center consel 7. either 31's or 33's with new rims 8.replace rear taillight 9.fix front passenger turnsignal

nice work!! looks very good. I just recently helped a coworker do the same in his ponitac G6. it was a little easier for him though with the G6 having a double din opening from the factory. and he choose to have the computer in a regular case mounted in the trunk.
  3. you definately found one hell of a deal!! i've got more crap going on with my $600 find than the one you have. lucky duck ;)
  4. that is so sad to see. too bad he did that. i bet the bed is rust free too.
  5. you won't see much from buying the house this tax year. i know because I too bought a house in august. And I took my taxes over to an H&R block because I wasn't sure what to do. this coming tax year will be nice. my wife and I don't have any kids either so we only got about $1700 between state and federal. it all went to a new washer, dryer, parts and labor to put them in. Stupid house didn't have any type of hookup or spot for them. I ended up converting the front bedroom closet to fit them in.
  6. it really sounds like an air bubble. bleed it and you should be good. and thanks for serving the country for us!!!!
  7. sorry to read the trouble. i doubt the workman's comp will cover the pay from both jobs. usually it's from just the one, and that's if you even get it. at least you should be able to get it. most big retail jobs or companies have it. I wasn't as lucky with my injury when i was 19. I tore my acl in my right leg. I went to the ER just to have them tell me it's a sprain. I walked on it for a year! then i decieded to see a specialist. turns out in that time the acl disintegrated. I had to have surgry my first year of college during x-mas break. I couldnn't walk or drive for at least a month!! and it wasn't work related, i was donating my time for the local junior football team. i was lifting a homebuilt consession stand with my dad to put it on the back of the van. it was alittle stuck so we rocked it back and fourth. well I had my leg to close and freaked. so i spun to the left but my foot stayed straight. then i heard a snap and fell to the ground. Most painfull thing i have ever had happen. that made the hernia repair a breeze. which was about a year and a half ago. but that was even a few weeks of no driving or work.
  8. no lowering, that is so stupid especially since it's a 4wd. lifting it is, just need the $$$ for the front springs and shocks.
  9. thanks for the offers guys, but it would cost me more in gas than it's worth. I will be fine with the cherokee axles. plus it gives me a reason to lift the thing
  10. well thanks for the idea, but i had to take the 4.10 back to get the cherokee axles. It's just going to take more time now, but that's ok. It will be nice to have the 3.55 gearing. Driving the mj will then be like my wifes 99 xj that we used to have.
  11. Do you happen to know where?
  12. I am sorry for not clairifing, i wasn't going to use the shock mount as a perch. I was looking to do it just like you had it. and I was just curious if you had to use longer u-bolts. I know that reusing the old ones is not a good idea, heck we cut the old ones off already. Duner--- thanks for the pic I will more than likely do the same too.
  13. thanks for the info pete. So it's not really recomended. bummer. I still might do it though, it's not like I will be harping on this thing. the truck is mainly my winter beater. did you have to get longer U-bolts to do it?
  14. where did you get that black top plate? is that custom made? I am just thinking of doing the same thing for mine to make it easier for me. i really don't want to reweld the spring perches on my new axle from a cherokee. then i'd just have to get new springs for the front and new shocks all around. what kind of lift would doing this soa be?
  15. well today a friend and I picked up the cherokee axles. so the next available day we are going to swap everything. should be a fun time. so now we have to cutoff the spring perches and reweld them. I'm gonna have to buy a protractor to get the right angle. I'll keep everyone posted on this project.
  16. I feel really stupid, i should have known that. thanks though.
  17. ok, i have a stupid question, what does CAD stand for?
  18. yay, this will be fun. so what about the front? Bolt in affair. I believe front brakes have changed through the years though, so you may have to use the calipers off the new axle. well it's good to know that the front shouldn't be to bad. do you still think that the calipers will be different from 88 to 89? and from an xj to an mj?
  19. yay, this will be fun. so what about the front?
  20. i figured on changing the axles. one of my friends says to change the gears. my thoughts are just like yours that it would be a pain to set-up old gears. and plus i just don't feel like messing with that. So the next thing is, will i run into any problems with the front end swap? I know if I was to stay at stock hight for the rear I'd have to move the spring perches.
  21. well i don't think that it will be to much of a problem. It's not like I am looking to have performance stopping, that's what the Tiburon is for ;) so I talked to the guy at the junk yard this afternoon and he is going to pull the 3.55 front & rear drive axles for me. so now I just have to come up with the money for a lift, or just spend more time changing out the gears. I haven't decieded yet.
  22. Earlier D35 rear axles mostly used 10" drums. I think in 1990 or so Chryco changed to 9" drums. C-clip and non C-clip axles sometimes were different. D44's mostly had 10" drums, but some had 9". There were variants of these throughout the years, as there were with a lot of parts on our vehicles. so more than likely it was out of a 90+ comanche. thanks for the info. I did call the idiot at the junk yard and told him what is going on. I guess he is personally going out to the yard and seeing what he can find. I told him that I wouldn't mind 3.55 gears out of the cherokee he has. that would just mean that I'd have to change out the front too and either lift the truck with a soa and kit, or move the spring perches.
  23. the more that i think about this new rear end i wonder if it would still be the right one. my one friend counted 36 or 37 teeth to the ring, but he did not count the pinion. if my math is right the pinion should be a 12 tooth. which would make it to be 3.08333 ratio. so i could possibly still use it. I guess we will have to count it again. what was weird though, is that the brakes were different. like the drums and parts are smaller on the new axle. could anyone shed some light on this?
  24. thanks for letting me vent. previous owner tore up the ring and pinion, ran it dry and romped on it. it would make a rattling noise and the truck wouldn't move.
