need info. from everyone
mfpdm replied to comanche-man22's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Here was my recent attempt. Let the glass people do it and save the trouble. -
I was wondering if others have the same problem that I do. :brows: No not that one. I can't seem to leave the JY without buying something and it's usually not what I went there for. For instance today I went in hopes to find a few misc interior parts or maybe get lucky and find a D44, but came home with this: There really nice and would look great in my MJ but I'm going with gray interior. I just couldn't leave them there. So am I the only one, or does this happen to others? :wrench:

We thought about that but the son wants to try and keep the stock look.

Just look at my 89, it doesn't have a tee. PO may have just used that instead of replacing the hose. :dunno:

This would be a great place for parts if you had a dealers or dismantlers license. http://www.salvagedirect.com/ There's one MJ in there, but lots of XJ's and other Jeeps. I was surprised to see an 07 wrangler in the future auction section.

I'm not sure what the 4 h4 conversions are. Is it anything like this, :rotfl2:

It's a SWB. Thanks for the support. The ultimate goal is to have a very nice looking and dependable MJ that will serve as a great DD and be fairly capable offroad. Update the interior with a few more modern things here and there, have some new parts for the grille, will do a complete rebuild of the donor motor with all new parts, convert to 4wd auto, and hopefully find one of those mythical D44's. Oh and of course a new paint job. By the time it's done, I may have to call the project the $10K MJ.

X2! Welcome to the club!

At one time I had considered this, but now that I've seen this one on ebay, I don't think that look is for me. What do you think? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jeep-Com ... 8543QQrdZ1

Here ya go. I think this may be the one you want but they have others. http://www.trucknvans.com/ProductDetail ... tCode=DVL2 I'm down in Chesapeake. I've seen jeep stuff on craigslist in King George, is that you?

Two reasons, one there is a small dent where something slid forward in the bed. It's still functional, but I have to pull it to fix the dent under the window. and two, I'm stealing this idea from someone that posted it up on here. http://www.crlaurence.com/ProductPages/ ... ml?Origin= http://www.trucknvans.com/Truck_T_Slide ... _s/815.htm Looking at the POWR version.

Regardless of what I plan on going after, I always take a good varity of tools with me for those things you find that you just got to have. :brows:

I thought about breaking out the saw but I didn't want to learn another lesson. :dunce: I tried the cable on the windshield. It worked okay on the sides but the bottom and top wouldn't have it. I ended up using a box knife, screw driver, and another big knife. Was very tempted to use my size 10 shoe. :brows: With the rear being flat, I'm hoping it will be easier. I'll probably try the hot knife. I think I read somewhere in the tech forum about the gasket on the outside had to come off first if I remember right.

Well I pulled the headliner and windshield tonight. Headliner was cake but that windshield was a PITA! Lesson learned no. 3. Don't buy some wizbang gizmo to remove the windshield. It doesn't work. :wall: At least it was broke already(Lesson no.1  ) Need a better way to remove the rear. We plan on replacing it but I don't want to break a factory split window. I'd like to be able to sell it later.

We do plan on swapping the power windows and locks. I'm going to try without swapping the whole door but if thats too much trouble than we'll see. Wiring shouldn't be to hard because I'm going to be using the xj's harness. I'll keep you in mind if that plan falls through. :D

Floor was pretty easy. I got it at Lowes in a kit. http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=p ... lpage=none First you have to scrub it down with a cleaner that is in the kit. Mine was real easy because the garage was just added on. Once it is good and dry, you mix the two part epoxy together, cut in all the edges and then roll it out. Every so often you throw the paint chips over the fresh area. I damp mop it from time to time. Cleans up nice and so far it hasn't stained.

WARNING: The following pictures are not suitable for all viewers. Viewer discretion is advised. What happens when good wrenches are put in the hands of a father and son duo against an 88 Comanche? Their innocent shinny crome, is going to get covered in sweat and oil, in "Wrenches Gone WILD". :wrench: Uhum, well enough of that. Here is my project in the works. Starting out with a 88 MJ 2wd with a 2.5 4 speed tranny. She's not a bad looker with a solid body. Here's the plan, Strip her down to nothing. :brows: I don't even want to know what made these. I was hoping for better but this wasn't too bad for the floor pan. Out comes the dash. Lesson learned no. 1. If it doesn't come out, Don't force it. Getting close now There, she's pretty much naked on the inside. Now for the 4 banger. This wasn't the best idea to hold the tranny. Lesson learned no. 2, drain the tranny fluid. :thwak: Thank goodness for epoxy floors. Well I figure in a couple more weeks or so she'll be heading to the paint shop. We still have to pull the bed off and a few other misc. things, oh and of course pressure wash the crap out of her. While she's there we'll make, Wrenchs Gone WILD!!! Part 2. Starring the "Donor". 89 XJ, 4.0 auto 4X4. She'll be donating the drivetrain, interior, and axles. Bucket seats. Have a lot of plans for the build up, so I'll be posting lots of pic's. I'm sure at some point we'll actually come up with a more suitable name for the project once we start putting it back together.

Need quick advice on an axel swap.
mfpdm replied to mfpdm's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Dang I love this place. Without it I would probably waste alot of time and money on things that I wouldn't be satisfied with. I was real close to bidding and decided to check back here first. I'm going to take the "keep looking" advice. It seems like finding a D44 is like a snipe hunt. Thanks for the help. -
I'm looking at getting a D44 to swap into the MJ. Here it is on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=013&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=230130598502&rd=1&rd=1 Has anyone done this swap? I know I have to move the perches. My biggest concern is the brakes and e-brake. Any thoughts or opions. Where might I have trouble? :???:

I agree. Pretty good ones at that. And an aluminum V8. I was interested in a Rover until I saw what kind of gas mileage they got. Went with a Toy for better mileage and better resale value. :brows:

Here's a link to better pic's of the coin. This guy has two. :brows: http://www.jeepsunlimited.com/forums/showthread.php?t=549758 I just noticed that the ebay seller and the guy in the link are in Ohio. Hmmm, I wonder if it the same person.
-
This is the second one I've seen on ebay. The last one went cheaper than what this one is at now. I was going to bid on this one but I saw it was getting run up. Good luck to the winner.
-
Why do they always have to be so far from me? :wall: Would love to have it.
-
 That's a good size play area. I'm really digging the ten-slot look. Can't wait till I put mine all back together with the new one I got. :brows:
-
Thanks, I've read that before but just forgot until you refresh my memory. That seems to happen more often than I'd like to admit. :D Must need more beer.
