  1. not sure i agree. did it on my old zj and had no problems and i have never heard of it doing that before. maybe you had a bad prep job? not gonna spend $400 for a bedliner on a $2000 jeep. thanks for the warning though

  3. next- put the radio back in and add a cb for the trail runs. ordering the steel next week for the bumper. thinking about adding a/c, big project though.
  4. well, did the ebrake over the weekend. the dana 35 ebrake cables went right into the 8.8 drums like they were stock. it is nice to have an ebrake again! also put on a dynomax muffler and rerouted the rear of the exhaust to exit right behind the passenger tire, above the leaf spring. removed the rear bumper in prep for making one with a better profile. i will try and get some pix up tonight. edit for pix nathan
  5. that is kinda what i did when i had the 9" in the zj with lincoln calipers. this axle has drum brakes though and i think the attachment is very similar to the d35 drums. nathan
  6. thx, my dad purchased it new in 91 and we have had it in the family since. i picked it up a few years ago and have been slowly resto'ing it to a nice weekend camper/ backcountry explorer. nathan
  7. wow it has been a while for an update. we bought a new house and the new commute was killing me in the mj, almost sold it. but decided to sell the volvo 855 and got a vw jetta tdi, man 46 mpg is nice! so, after finishing a few house projects, i have spent some time on the mj. picked these up at the swap meet for $250 for 5! yes wheels and tires! sold my old wheels with almost bald toyo's for $200, so $50 for 31x10.5 bfg at's on jeep wheels- not bad. this is how it sits with 31's and about 3.5-4" of lift. finally got around to doing the herculiner bedliner. prep was a pain but it went on pretty easy. hides the dents nice! now i am working on getting the mj parking cables to work in the 8.8 drums. looks like it may just fit. also took out the foot pedal latch and am in the process of making it work again so it does not slip and come unlatched. next up is a new muffler and maybe cat. later! nathan
  8. they look a lot like my 1.25" spacers on my 8.8. no problems so far. nathan
  9. get a 1999 wj booster/ mc, basically a direct bolt in. i picked mine up on ebay for $60 shipped and it solved all of my braking problems.
  10. my v8 zj springs gave me no lift on my 4.0 4wd mj. might do something for the 2wd though nathan
  11. sorry about the delay, i was rebuilding our back fence all weekend. the pics are kinda bad and forgive the messing looking brackets as this was during the test fitting before i finished and painted them. i basically cut the front brackets down near the floor and used pieces of the top mj and xj brackets to weld on behind the bottom bracket. the rears are pretty much on the floor and were just some tabs. they are very beefy and look better in person than on these pics
  12. i am going to try and make the d35 cables work. don't know it they will, but i will keep you updated nathan
  13. man i don't know how you fit with the seat that high! i am 5'9" 175lbs and it sucks getting in and out. keep hitting my head. i will try and get some pics this weekend. nathan
  14. just got done putting in the passengers seat. i cut up the brackets and lowered the seat so the rails are almost on the floor. it is much more comfortable and easier to get in and out. not the prettiest but it is solid. gonna do the drivers side next and will get some pics. nathan
  15. 3/16". i did some .125" thick ones for my zj as my first attempt and the bent after the first few hard hits. nathan
  16. anyone tried to put the newer 3 wire style plastic speedo gear housing in place of the older 2 wire metal housing? the reason i ask is the newer shorter replacement speedo gears are everywhere while the older, longer ones are hard to come by. i know the newer housing fits in but don't know if the wiring will be compatible. nathan
  17. that is what i was thinking as well. if i get bored i may swap springs from side to side to see if it makes a difference.
  18. good eye. i bought 2 passengers seats as they were in better shape and had a lot more support than the drivers seats. i picked up an extra drivers side slider and put it on the passengers seat. after driving it with the seat in, i need to lower it down. might make a custom front bracket or mod the existing one. yes it is about 4" of lift with 31's. i have noticed the drivers side rear is about .5" lower than the passengers side  don't know what to do yet but its buggin me. nathan
  19. after driving it for a few days, i have to say that the 3.73 gears are right on. it may even seem over geared. i don't know how you guys do it with 31s and 4.10's, it would make 1st gear useless. anyway, my speedo is reading about 5 mph over now so i need a new speedo gear. any idea on # of teeth? got all the vibes dialed out and it drives better than it did before i lifted it. new ball joints, shocks and stiffer springs doesn't hurt. made some swaybar extensions/discos. just have to take off the nut for the disco. this truck won't do much wheelin that will need the swaybar off. got the buckets cleaned up today old bench seat drivers bucket in man that is tall! i had to drill out the rivets on the bench seat brackets and the bucket seat brackets and swap them. a few bolts and welds and they went right in. i am not sure on how well i like the higher seating position yet. i may cut the brackets down by an inch or so but have to deal with the front bracket hitting the tranny tunnel. also picked up some herculiner for the bed. gonna wait till it warms up a little first though.
  20. stock 92 explorer spring plates. i didn't know that bend salts the roads, that sucks. i am usually only over there in the summer. nathan
  21. no salted roads here. when it does get icy or snow, they just plow and lay down gravel. a few more rock chips but the cars stay fairly rust free. nathan
  22. got the axle all the way in but haven't had the chance to drive it yet. hooked up the stock ford rubber brake line to the jeep hard line. bolted in the shocks can up to help clear the lower shock mounts. stock driveline fit perfect hopefully get to drive it tomorrow and give an update and some full shots. nathan
  23. i think i will be able to use the explorer lower shock mounts. i reversed them and with a little bending, i think they will work fine. pulled out the axle and welded up the perches. these leaf springs sure are a lot easier to set up then 4 links! tomorrow i will finish the shocks, hook up the brake lines and ebrake. looks like the the explorer ebrake cables will not work with the mj system. one cable is too short and one is too long. i am going to try and use the d35 cables. nathan
  24. small update. built up the leaf packs and put the axle in place to get ready to weld on the spring perches. the leaf pack is a follows mj main s-10 main s-10 second s-10 third mj overload that gave me about 2" of lift, maybe a little less when it settles. i also made longer shackles for about 1.5" of lift. tomorrow i set the pinion angle and tack on the perches then pull out the axle on finish the welds. then just figure out what to do for lower shock mounts, hook up the brake lines and ebrake cables. nathan
  25. started the rear today. no more d35! those front leaf spring bolts were a pita! s-10 top leaf next to mj spring pack s-10 main leaf (front) next to mj main leaf (in back) cut off the s-10 main leaf eyes and laid it on top of the mj main leaf. pretty close to the same arch. don't know how much it will help. i think by combining certain leaves i might be able to get enough for 2" or so of lift. with a longer shackle, 3" is possible. nathan
