  1. Ha, I had an idea for making truck nuts like that, but i was gonna use 2 big ball bearings haha
  2. I wish i could! But I ship out August 14! But then again, my 'manche still doesnt even have an engine in it :fs1:
  3. Diggin the back bumper, was it just a piece of square tube that you cut, bent, and welded to make the shape? If so what where the dimensions of the tube you started with?
  4. Was lurking, and noticed nobody mentioned Detours Off Road? He makes some really good parts, and does alot of custom work, I've been following is build, the rolling felony, on cherokeeforums for a while now, if anyones interested his website is detoursusa.com, check it out!
  5. Been awhile since i updated, but just a quicky till i can get some pics up, I got another v6 to throw in for now, joined the navy and i ship out in august, so i don't want to throw a lot of money into the 'manche since i won't get to use it too much for the next few years, just enough to get it going and keep it running till i ship. Floors are repaired, little brother bought chassis saver for his xj, and there was lots left over! so the floors got the special treatment!
  6. :agree: details on the swap would be awesome! I'm considering a turbo diesel for my '86, pretty sure i saw another thread somewhere where the guy had a mercedes diesel in it, can't remember where though
  7. Man, I thought my floors were bad....
  8. Read through your old builds by chance, definitely subscribing to this one!
  9. how will i know what spline it is?
  10. don't mean to hijack your thread, but I'm (hopefully) about to do the same swap, and was wondering if anyone knew if the ax5 that was bolted up to my 2.8 will bolt up to the 3.4, and if an np242 will bolt up to the ax5? again sorry for hijacking, but i figured this would be better than making a new topic for questions on a similar topic.
  11. Does anyone know if my AX5 will bolt up to the a gm 4.3 v6? and will an NP242 tcase from an '88 xj bolt on to the ax5? From what ive read the ax5 is not a good transmission, essentially being a small car transmission that was put into jeeps and light duty trucks, but funds are low and its what i have for now.
  12. Well, may be a change of plans. Ive done some more research, and starting to think I may be in over my head with the 4.0. Does anyone know what years/vehicles the 3.4 came in that would swap in?
  13. Ah. I have no clue if it even works. May try it out at some point, but i don't like cruise. one less thing to pay attention to while driving makes it that much easier to fall asleep at the wheel.
  14. shelbyluvv may be right. I'm not positive, it was just an assumption
  15. The yellow box is the computer for the old v6, havent messed with the wiring yet. something always comes up when your making progress. such is life and yea, the floorboards are horrid. the PO's son took it mudding, and blew the engine, then it was parked for 6 years. essentially, rode hard, and put away muddy
  16. Well its been a while since ive been able to do anything on the Incarnate. Started tearing out the interior today so i could start on the floor repair. I knew it would be bad, wasnt expecting this :headpop: I knew it was worse than expected when i pulled up some of the padding on the drivers side..last time i checked when you pull up the padding, the floor isnt supposed to come with it :wall: Passenger side after some wire wheeling Drivers side..the worst :ack: Thankfully i have cut off wheels, a welder, and an old dodge hood to cut up for patches! Assuming nothing goes wrong with life, i should have it cut out and begin patching tomorrow!
  17. yea i know. the XJ is from a friend though, and really cheap which is why I'm doing it instead. plus ive heard nothing good about the ax5, and $500 for a good engine, tranny, and new tires is a bit hard to pass up. ive talked to some other members on here who have done this swap, so i know i have someone to turn to with questions. And yea, i love the black interior!
  18. Hello all, finally got some notable work done on my manche, so thought it was time for a build thread. My truck is an '86 long bed, and HAD a crappy GM 2.8 V6, AX5, and not sure which transfer case, didnt really matter to me since from the beginning i planned on pulling it all out. Tomorrow I'm getting a donor '88 XJ for an engine, tranny, and transfer case. Its gonna end up with a 4.0, AW4, and NP242. Short term plans are to just get it running dependably. Eventually, as money allows, id like to start with a 4.5 lift, 33's, and some other misc. crap, then eventually do a 97+ swap. When I first got her PO had a floor jack in the back :fs1: GM's piece of crap v6... Finished pulling the engine today, broke 3 crossmember bolts.... Finally, the stupid thing is out More to come tomorrow once i get the XJ and start tearin it down. If time allows i should be cuttin and patching my rusted out floors, darn missouri :wall: Keep in mind I'm just a broke teenager tryin to finish high school, so its gonna be a slow build, but worth the wait
  19. hmm..well i was told if i do a 4.0 swap, that i would have to swap out the rad support and hood from an xj or mj with the 4.0, anyone know if this will clear for the 318?
  20. Anyone on here ever do, or know anyone whose done a 318 swap on their 'manche? I can pick one up for fairly cheap, and was wondering how much more difficult it would be than the 4.0? I have an '86 with the firewall that doesnt match up for the 4.0 btw, with a partially disassembled 2.8 in it atm.
  21. Well as near as I can tell with that v6 in the way, I am going to have to show the firewall some love :wall: But aside from that i think (hope) everything will fit alright. Tearin into the mj tomorrow after school, and going to start going through the 4.0 more thoroughly. There'll be a build thread posted, since i figure thats a better way to keep track of whats going on with it. I'll be sure to take lots of pics, because i know i'll need lots of help :shake:
  22. No, thats just what the PO said. Ive been more interested in gettin it running so dad can have his truck back and i can have my much missed 4x4!
  23. Yea, the xj and mj are both 4x4 -Matt
  24. for now just stock (26" i think), unless the SOA nets me 6" of lift, then i'll be moving up to the 31"s off dads dodge, he needs new ones, and the 'Manches are bald!
  25. yea, i just need the best possible gas mileage i can get right now, cuz I'm just a poor, unemployed teenager right now :fs1: and i don't plan on doing anything just yet to need the 4.10s -Matt
