  1. Hey all, A while back I did the plastic to metal valve cover swap on my 90 swb, 2.5L. Ive noticed that Ive got some seepage out the bottom of the gasket on the manifold side....not a huge worry since I'm keeping an eye on it, and its not pouring out (I think its the crappy rubber/cork gasket (felpro) that I got from Napa. What does concern me, is...It is leaking out the oil filler cap. When I installed the valve cover, I made sure the vacuum ports to the throttle body and the air box were clear, and they are. Is there a vented oil cap available, or do I just need a new seal on the current cap? -Erin p.s.- Anyone have a better gasket option for the valve cover? (ie, all rubber?)
  2. Nope...bone stock. Ive been under it while someone was turning the wheel. Ive narrowed it to either the steering gear box, or the track bar
  3. The on-going saga...Of course, it got cold fairly quickly here shortly after this post. I got a semi-warm day, and checked the track bar frame mount bolts...they are TIGHT! My next guess is the track bar itself....I'm also going to have another look at the steering linkage down to the steering gear box. (although, last time I felt around in there, it did not feel like it was clunking at all when the noise is present.) Time to order a track bar I guess.... -E.
  4. cool. Mine still has some issues, it could be as simple as the crappy gasket I got from Napa (its a cork/rubber combo) but from what I can see, it must not be much of an issue as nothing is coated in oil, and its not smoking. I do however have some leakage from the oil cap now....(waiting till its warmer here to dive in to the issues) -E.
  5. Still have not found my steering problem! And...Currently, too dang cold to work on it outside. (read no heated garage to pull it into. Waiting till spring. In the plans along with rust repair/paint, are....find/fix steering clunk, New Front tires, New Accelerator cable. There is more on the list, but these are the right away things for when we thaw out up here. -E.
  6. Hey Pitbull....I did have to re-torque my valve cover bolts. (had slight seepage) I would re-check them in a couple weeks. So far, Ive had no issues with mine since doing this upgrade.
  7. I should qualify the above....Nobody carries the 2.5L cable locally, nor does the dealer. RockAuto only carries the "short" cable with no other options for the 2.5L.
  8. lsmurphy....He is about $10 more than local for the I6 Accel cable, and about the same for the dealership here. $10 more for the correct cable is OK with me. That ATP cable in your last link is the SAME cable I got from RockAuto...It is NOT the correct length!!! (same part number and everything) And, by the time I got it shipped to me, and then had to ship it back, I was over the cost of getting the right cable the first time. Again...The ATP cable is NOT correct! So far...between the dealer, RockAuto, and this guy...There is only one choice! Nobody locally carries the cable period. They can't even order it, and most likely if they could, it would also be wrong. I had to actually measure the cable length with a sewing tape to find the correct one. -Erin
  9. Check this out, THIS is the right length cable!...... http://jeeppartsguy.com/products/?view= ... duct_id=35 Calling them in the AM.
  10. Thats the cable they sent....Its about 20" too short, and has the wrong plastic "connectors for the throttle bracket and firewall...
  11. Ok....Correction, It IS a 1990. (I checked and it is a TBI system, I only see the one "big" injector) Regardless, NOBODY seems to have the correct cable!!! my cable is over 27" long. IS there anyone who has the correct cable? Edit: The title has been corrected!
  12. Hey Folks, Anyone have a 1991 2.5L accelerator cable they would part with asap? The end of my cable is cracked, and will not stay on the accelerator plate (currently safety wired, tho, I'm not sure how long it will hold together) I tried Rock Auto, and they sent me a cable which was incorrect. According to them, I have a 91 (build date of 4/90) and they do not stock the right cable. I tried locally and NOBODY stocks it, not even the dealer! There are no 2.5L's at the U-pull it here, and currently it is -6 degrees out. This is my daily driver...HELP! -Erin
  13. Hey Guys....I have another issue related to this. The end of the accelerator cable is cracked (the metal end in the engine bay) I tried Rock Auto for a new cable, they sent me one for a 90, and it was incorrect. According to them, I have a 1991, (build date of 4/90)and they do not stock the cable! I tried everywhere locally and nobody has one. Anyone have a good 91 2.5L accel cable they'd part with? Also...There are no 2.5L's at the U-pull it here, and it is currently -6 degrees out! HELP! -Erin
  14. Hey Folks...I got the cable from Rock Auto, and its not the right one. According to them, I have a 1991 (build date of 4/90) and they do not carry the cable...Any help on where to find one would be great. For now, I have it safety wired onto the acc. plate! -Erin
  15. Yep. Still amazed at the dealer's lack of knowledge....
  16. Hey All, Anyone have a source for an accelerator cable for a 1990 2.5L, 2wd? -E. I tried Napa, and the dealer. Napa didn't have it, and the dealer was confused?!
  17. Most likely correct. I also seem to be the only Comanche owner in Mpls MN. Ha! I figure at $75 the price is not too bad. (about on par with what my wife's toyota parts cost) Plus, the U-pull it places both are over an hour away so, If I count in gas money and time spent. -E.
  18. 1987Comanche....Ok, I wasn't sure on the cut-off date on Renix stuff. Looks like 1990 is still renix....(I had to look it up) lsmurphy....Can't afford the whole TBI, aside from the fact that everything else is working fine, and I can replace just the ISA motor. -E. Edit- Is an ISA from a JY really a good idea?
  19. If you really listen to it, it sounds like a frozen DC motor, which is exactly what it really is. Buzzing/grinding, CD ejecting....could all describe the noise, from different perspectives really. I did confirm that is the problem....Any idea if the link I have is the correct part?
  20. Hey all, A question for the "gurus" I'm wondering if anyone can confirm if this is the correct part. In the Haynes manual, it is refered to as the Idle speed actuator motor. It sure looks similar to the one in my truck. Also...Anyone know if there is a cheaper source for this part? I found a post with the factory part number, and an "aftermarket" number, but all the local parts stores cannot find any relation to that number in the search function... -Erin http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/Catal ... 0336299362
  21. I'm pretty sure this is it: http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/Catal ... 0336299362 They also show one with a new bracket for $150!!! I'll have to call and make sure this is in fact the right one. It looks like the one in the truck. I did confirm that is the noise. Looks easy enough to replace....Id also like to know if any of the "gurus" know of any place to get it cheaper.... -E.
  22. May have to wait till next payday....Looks like average is 95$ for it. Napa has one for 75$....Will report when I know more. -E.
