  1. Thats pretty much what mine looks like as well :hmm: I have my mechanic buddy coming tomorrow afternoon to take a look and give me a hand, as I tried twice with the warped cover, this time, Id like to get it right. You still have the 87? Does it leak?
  2. Hey All, I'm putting out a feeler. IF anyone has a metal 2.5L Valve cover, I'm looking, but have no idea what to expect price wise. If anyone actually has one, please PM me. -Erin
  3. 87....I got the new cover tonight. Got it cleaned up and ready to install. This one does have a slight bow (about a 32nd) but I don't expect it to be dead flat being as its a pull from a 94. But, the one I pulled off would not even sit flat with the gasket on....This one will at least sit fairly flat with the gasket. I'll know more tomorrow when I get to re-installing it. I would've gotten farther, but I also got to climb under the house dryer today to retrieve a ball point pen that went into the lint vent (and all over the load of clothes) Its beer time. -E. I will definitely be weighing the option of how much/where to put the RTV. The head surface isn't what I would call the most stellar finish either.
  4. found an OEM plastic cover from a 94, off to pick it up. -E.
  5. 87warrior....sadly, thats what I have (PO installed) and its junk. I did locate an OEM plastic cover from a 94 for $25 Just now. I'm off to pick it up. I will be on the lookout for a metal cover, which seem to be pretty rare here in MN. -Erin
  6. Located and purchased. Mods, please delete.
  7. I thought Id start another post since I found the problem to why my valve cover will not seal. The valve cover is warped. The word is to replace it with a metal cover? OR? There is an 1/8inch gap on the drivers side middle....This was is my daily driver, any quick help would be appreciated. I have had no luck finding one locally. -E. IF anyone has a spare metal cover, PM me please.
  8. OK....Cleaned up the valve cover, and its WARPED!!! on the drivers side about an 1/8 inch gap in the middle....
  9. I guess I was wrong. leaking major oil on the drivers side, onto exhaust. Time to start over. :(
  10. Ok. So far this morning, the shiny spot has not gotten larger, this may be a good sign. I'm going to pick up another gasket just for security's sake. -Erin
  11. Purchased! Thanks Dave!!! Mods please delete. -Erin
  12. I'll watch it for a day or 2, and see. There was an awful lot of oil all over the place from this leaking. If it doesn't stop seeping, I'll pick up another gasket, and try it again. I used ultra black on the vc side of the gasket. I'm fairly certain the VC is not cracked. -E. p.s.- Ive heard some guys put a bead of rtv on the head also? I followed the manual (says to only put it on the VC....
  13. 99.999% sure. I inspected the cover when I had it off, and visually from the outside all the bolt hole areas look fine. This is seeping between the bolt holes, about halfway between. I made sure to listen as I was tightening things down, and did not crank on them really hard, plus the bolts have shoulders on them to help alleviate tightening them too far. Its a brand new cover from xtremeterrain.com (previous owner bought it, and installed it) It did not look warped, cracked, or funky in any way when I removed it. I will say, it is leaking less than before. I did clean the mating surface on the head, but is it possible that its not leaking, but oil that I did not get quite cleaned up is seeping around the edge of the gasket? It does not appear to be leaking bad (if that is the case, Id assume it would clear up after driving for a while?.... :hmm: -E.
  14. Hey Folks, So, I decided today to re-do the leaking valve cover/gasket. I pulled the valve cover, cleaned off the PINK rtv, and the old gasket, got it looking pretty good. Cleaned the mating surface on the head with lacquer thinner. Got the new gasket, put Ultra Black on the VC side of the gasket, positioned the VC back on the head, and installed the bolts. Slowly tightened them down. The gasket visually looks like its in the right place, and all the bolts went in fine. Now, Ive got some seepage, mainly toward the drivers side rear between 2 of the bolts. The VC did not look warped when I installed it, and visually it is in decent shape. As far as I know I did not crack it anywhere. What next? BTW...the gasket is rubber. -Erin
  15. A few pictures of todays fun: PINK RTV?!? and the original gasket, whatever this stuff was, it was a pain to remove. Valve cover re-installed, Ultra black RTV. Went great with the exception of I think I have a leak on the drivers side between 2 bolts!?! Grr.
  16. Yes! So...guys...I just got done doing my valve cover gasket, and I swear Ive got a small leak on the drivers side between 2 of the bolts toward the back. I really do not want to re-do it, and I'm quite certain that means a new gasket (the one I had was brand new) The valve cover is plastic, but looks outstanding visually. Any help? -Erin
  17. Tomorrow I'll be re-doing the Valve cover gasket. PO used some sort of PINK RTV?!? apparently it is not oil proof?!? (oil leaking from vc, down side of engine) Good thing the truck came with an extra rubber VCG. :jump:
  18. How early? long or short box? Thanks!
  19. If I pass on them, I'll let you know. :D
