Can Comanches be reliable daily drivers?
big66440 replied to big66440's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm planning on driving everywhere with this baby, from the lows of death valley to the highest peak in the states, ice cold morning starts to 3 digit hill climbs in mid summer, I'm aware of the possibility of "surprise" problems with anything automotive ( I fix cars for a living) but the whole purpose if possible is to "pinpoint" the weaknesses of these awesome rigs :brows: to try and prevent them, I'm a mopar guy through and through and know they can build bullet proof vehicles and this is the one I personally think is unique and worthwhile,,,just out of curiosity how much of this 89 4.0/AW4 D35 SWB manche is mopar I know the trannys Aisin Warner (japanese/german) built but what about the rest? -
Thank you for the post!!!  :wrench:

big66440 replied to big66440's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I really don't mean to throw a wrench in the gears but I'm upgrading to the comp cams 68-232-4 cam (lift IN .460 EX .476 Duration @.050 IN .206 EX .212 Intake centerline 110 lobe separation 113)does that make any difference with the same tire size? -

big66440 replied to big66440's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I thought they would be a little too much for the tire size I'm aiming to get the best mileage out of my truck whats the best mileage you guys have gotten out of a SWB 2x4 AW4 4.0? -
if possible can you ask for the windshield gasket manufacturer? I need to replace mine before it really kills my floor boards, thank u.

WOW I didn't know these machines had so much going for them  do the balancer's have a tendency to slip ? do the flexplate's crack? -
I tried ordering a csf 3 row radiator through the parts bin.com and found it to be the WORST online company to do business with,These @holes were quick to withdraw my money but when I called for my tracking number or AT LEAST some kind of update on my order (which by the way took me an hour to get to talk to someone) they gave a B.S lie that it would be shipped ASAP,,,, lo and behold it never was and when I called back again was told it would be back ordered for about 3 weeks!!! stay away from these guys and don't waste your time and money.

Can Comanches be reliable daily drivers?
big66440 replied to big66440's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Sounds great! thank you all for the input. -
I'm planning on making my Comanche my daily driver, I want to make it reliable enough to start er up and drive across the country any given day :wrench: but have read on the net about the AW4 being somewhat unreliable or just OK as far as strength, the unibody structure being somewhat flimsy and trucks breaking in half? Dana 35's being weak rears I know the 4.0 is heck of a good reliable engine but are there any specific parts for the renix equipped manches to keep a close eye on? I have an 89 renix 4.0/AW4 D35 rear so cal (Very little rust, even under the carpet) I don't plan on towing with the truck, but I plan on occasionally throwing my engine blocks or a cherry picker in the rear for my other projects, any input on suspension, drivetrain, body mods are welcome(By the way iv'e already gone through the "what would you share with other comanche owners thread")

What year(s) Taurus? sounds like it would be cheaper than the twin zirgo fans i'm thinking of using,I'm on a very tight budget with the kids going back to school and the way the economy is.
-
I'm upgrading my manche to a 3 row radiator and electric fans,I was wondering what some of you guys were using as far as fan/shroud combos aftermarket or factory?,I was thinking of using a factory shroud but have found that there are many different ones. Can some of you let me know what youre running? I have an 89 4.0L/AW4 with AC I plan on using as a daily driver thanks
