Another hard starting when cold
big66440 replied to big66440's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It starts up perfectly fine as well as a renix 4.0 goes when the engines at operating temp, I've checked fuel pressure with a gauge and it's perfectly fine,I have new plug wires and a cap I even tried a high performance mallory coil and still no luck,I'm positive the tps is set correctly I used the scanner to set it at .83 volts, I was thinking about replacing the pickup coil in the distributor but see no reason why it would only act up when the engines cold,I've tried priming the system a couple times before i start it and it doesn't help,,,I read somewhere about a tsb were the cps is spliced directly to the ecm has any one heard of this? -
Another hard starting when cold

I've already tried it,and it did nothing it's pretty damn embarrassing getting into my truck with my mechanics uniform in the morning and having that happen  lol -
Another hard starting when cold

nobody? i have access to a snap on mt2500 scanner if that helps? -
I have an 89 renix 4.0/AW4 D35,It's a PITA to get it to start when cold (engine temp) I know renix engines crank for a bit before they start but I have to sit there and crank it for a good minute before it even starts sputtering. I recently replaced the fuel pump (good pressure),fuel filter, cps, plug wires, o2 sensor, cleaned the IAT and throttle body thoroughly,I've checked resistance values on coolant temp sensor it seems fine, checked fuel pressure regulator it's also ok,it's pretty much the last thing i need to figure out to make my truck run perfect but I'm all out of ideas, please help.
-
Although to be honest I'm not really convinced my coolant temp sensor is in really good shape,,, but anyway I have a new mallory coil and set of 8.2mm wires coming in from summit.
-
Allright I got the pump in, I'm getting approx 34-36 psi with the ignition switch in the "on" position and while cranking,31 psi with the vacuum line hooked up to the regulator and 39 psi with the hose disconnected (both the 31 and 39 psi readings where done while the engine was running) but my hard starting issue when cold actually got worse I have a new cps, fuel filter/pump,02 sensor, squeaky clean throttle body and have checked values on the MAP,IAT,ECT sensors and are all within range, any ideas?
-
you used a 69302? i was able to get it set and pumping, but while putting my fuel hoses back together my o rings for the quick connect decided to tear apart( I pulled my intake/exhaust manifold to weld up the exhaust leak) so now I have to wait a couple days for the dealer to get them in,,,I haven't been able to check fuel pressure.
-
they both look the same, the difference I see is the piece of hose supplied with the pump, the walbro has a straight piece and the bosch has the 90 degree,I received my bosch today and its a lot smaller than the one I pulled out of my truck but comes with what looks like an adapter kit the part number I received is the 69302,has anyone used this number on a 4.0 with success? my truck's been down for almost 2 weeks now and would hate to wait any longer.
-
so its a matter of choice?
-
I looked up a fuel pump for my 89 manche 4.0 on rock auto and they list 2 different ones a bosch or a walbro, yet Autozone only lists one any one know anything about this? :hmm: :hmm: :hmm:

big66440 replied to Jerry Forrester's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Any luck? Have you tried ohming those wires? :hmm: -
well got a new pump on the way we'll see if it fixes my rig, the fuel filter i have in it doesnt even have 50 miles on it,is winter gas really that bad?

Help!, My 'manche quit running
big66440 replied to Jerry Forrester's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
good luck I'm also a tech,I know that feeling( my manche recently left me stranded)with the misses and had to walk back home ,,,keep it simple  -
Ok I checked to see if I have juice and ground to the pump and I have both,I checked voltage and saw about 12.03 volts when Its cranking and about 10.03 when the switch is in the on position guess it is my fuel pump :hmm: I wasn't thinking about it so much since my brother told me it had just been replaced when he gave it to me.
-
Thank u for the more thorough cps test procedure, I had the truck towed to the shop that i work in and after sitting all night I tried cranking the engine over with my fuel pressure gauge hooked up and turns out there's no fuel pressure,I hooked up the pump straight to the battery and got it to pump, tested the pump relay and works fine what are the ohms value for the pump ballast? I doubt thats the problem since I tried bypassing it and still didnt get the truck to start? can anyone point me in the right direction to a better fuel pump diagram circuit than the crappy Mitchell one?
-
no,it only has a couple of gallons of gas and it didnt sputter and die it just went dead out of the blue, forgot to mention the cps and 02 sensors are brand new.
-
It sounds like it wants to sputter a bit and catch on but it won't.
-
I was coming back from getting some beer with the misses and suddenly my manche stalled in the middle of an intersection :fs1:  :ack:  :hmm: I had to make an a$$ out of myself pushing it to the nearest backstreet,to no avail we had to walk home :thwak:, I have plenty of fuel, fuel pressure (pushed schrader valve and squirted like ol faithful),spark, and my temp gauge was steady at 190-195ish,I tried jumping the fuel pump ballast resistor wires but I"m not sure if I did it right I'm looking for a brainstorm type of ideas suggestions to help me out, thanks.

Headers and other aftermarket exhaust
big66440 replied to Brenton's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
clifford performance (6=8) makes a nice header that fits renix 4.0's a bit pricey but have all the goodies of a top notch company,I called them a few weeks ago and asked for details 1/2" flange,16 gauge mandrel bent tubing, ceramic coated
