  1. I was thinking a sticky for "crossover" parts may be useful. Kind of a place to compile a quick reference section. For example, I see a lot of talk about upgrading axles. Yes, you can swap in axles from an XJ, but what other vehicles will make good donors (with minimal or no modification). What about lift kits? springs? leafs? You get the idea. Does this sound reasonable? Or maybe just using the search button would more practical?
  2. When I sign on at home with automatic login, I really don't have problems. However, if I sign on at work (which always requires 2 attempts :hmm: go figure), it rarely shows any new posts. :dunno: :hateputers:

Dictionary.com RAVID: No entry found for ravid. Did you mean raved? Suggestions: raved rabid Ravi etc. Sorry, I had to check. :smart:
  4. Well, I finally got the gas tanks swapped. That was took more effort than it should have. I took out a 23 gal tank with rust holes in the top  and put in a 16 gal tank. Everything fit ok except the fill line. I think I have that fixed now though. Now I can get a new exhaust system welded in. Seems the guy doing it for me didn't like the idea of welding around those gas fumes from the leaky tank. :dunno: Right now the exhaust currently ends at a glasspack, man thats annoyingly loud (and illegal).
  5. I could understand the "1" on the hood better if you were in the Army. Is there an Air Force reference I'm missing?
  6. you forgot the front url tag :hateputers:
  7. Can we get a "suggested" price on items? Yes, money is tight, but I'd like to make sure I at least cover your cost on my request.
  8. Spare tire? One of those could be handy...
  9. So, what is "T" in the 8th slot? The VIN decoder seems to skip that value.
  10. I agree about the Durango weight. Dodge makes heavy vehicles; I had an ex-cab 4x4 ram 1500 that weighed over 5600 lbs if I recall correctly. I feel certain that the bigger, heavier vehicles come with beefier brakes and suspension. Regardless of overall wheelbase, the weight of the vehicle and its intended use will be the determining factor there.
  11. oops. really, i can spell.
  12. You have to find a host site for the picture. I use photbucket, but there are several to choose from. Once the pic is stored/hosted, simply type (or copy and paste) the addy. Hihglight the addy and click the Img button (above the message body block). Your pic will then be displayed in the message.
  13. Yes, it is a crappy pic. I blame my wife, she took it. ;) But the leak is gone. :D
  14. I picked up my parts truck today, and verified it is an '88. $200 and the bed full of trash came with it.
  15. easy now. that's my 11 year old daughter!
  16. My oil pressure guage will sometimes indicate good pressure (but it jumps). Once I start trying to drive, the guage always maxes out and lays flat, no movement. From a search on the forums, I gather that a bad connection, especially in the ground, may be the culprit. Does this sound valid, or is it more likely a bad sending unit? Or some other problem I would prefer not thinking about? Not sure if it would/should affect the guage reading, but the rear main is probably leaking. (I really need to pinpoint that leak.)
  17. Man, work sure interferes with fixing up my truck. At least I have good help. Here were are finishing up replacing the leaky rear diff gasket:
  18. Nice job getting it back together.
  19. Lots of links here. Links for mags, retail, clubs, manufacturers, you get the idea.... http://www.industryfigure.com/berkeley/Jeep/links.htm
  20. I am also interested. :D
  21. Well, this is my third Jeep, but my first MJ. It is a 1987, LWB, 4WD, I6, auto, with air. It started life in Michigan, moved to Florida, then to (upstate) South Carolina where I bought it. This picture was taken the first week I bought it. The matching brown patches on each rear panel are covering really nice rust holes, and of course, the rocker panels are gone. It has a few leaks and runs a little rough. But the air blows cold.
  22. Here are a couple links I like: http://www.4wd.com/newsite/default.asp http://www.acmejeepparts.com/ http://www.rockymountainsusp.com/jeep.htm http://www.blackdiamondoffroad.com/ http://www.tuffcountry.com/
  23. Partially good news, I had a chance to put my truck on a lift to examine the exhaust. It seems that the fuel leaks are from lines and around the pump, not the actual tank itself. The tank has been patched before, so a complete replacement tank is not an immediate need (I hope). And I was pleasantly surprised that things weren't quite as rusted out as I had expected. I spent a good bit of today at the DMV, now to get the fuel leak stopped so I can get a muffler, exhaust pipe, and hangers installed. I guess an oil change, diff. gaskets, and tune up would be in order too. As for a fuel cell, that could be an asnwer, but this truck is aslo my daily driver and I would prefer to leave the bed empty for hauling purposes. Oh, I am in Walhalla - near Clemson and Greenville.
  24. Hi. I just bought my first MJ. I have previously owned a CJ 8 and a YJ. My problem is finding parts. I have several catalogs in the house and internet sites bookmarked for Jeep items, but they all seem to deal with CJs and the occasional XJ. From a bit of reading here, it seems XJ parts cross to MJ. Is this correct? Or did I misread? I have an immediate need for a fuel tank but am having a hard time locating one. This truck spent most of it's life in Michigan (then moved to Fl and is now with me in SC) and is covered in rust, including the fuel tank. I found out the hard way while trying to fill more than 1/2 the tank, several leaks. I have an '87, auto, air, I6. Not sure of other details yet. (I bought it for $700. after working a double shift, in a rush to get a bit of sleep before going back to work.) I finally have a day off, want to work on it, and can't find anyone who stocks parts. Thanks in advance for your help and support.
