thanks bro, that does help alot. idk why you mentioned the 2wd shaft and 4x4 equipment, my Jeep already has 4x4. i agree with keeping stock crossmember, idk why people freak over having to get the right one, its just a piece of metal that can be reformed lol. where did you get your tcase drop kit? -
Ax-15 Additive
Comanche_Fanatic replied to AeroNautical's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
don't screw up the transmission dude. Motor oil is for motors, gear oil is for transmissions/axles. Get 2 bottles of 75w-90 from autozone with pump for $23 and call it a day. You absolutely cannot say 10W-30 and 75W-90 are close. Way different weights and additives. -
sup yall? I just got a AX15 to swap out the BA10, did a bit of searching on the forums and found some info however it appears that the crossmember is a must for the swap, I can get the pilot bearing at autozone for around $10 cause its a '96 AX15 from a XJ 4.0 4x4 i have read some post that people use aftermarket crossmember and transmission mounts to fit the AX15 what companies offer that? so far ive heard rustys if anyone has any more musts to add to the list please let me know, the swap has to be done in 1 day. -'96 AX15 (external) -Pilot Bushing ('74 CJ 304?) -Flywheel -Clutch plate - - - -

i use a green plastic brush bit on a diegrinder, i forget what its called, its very safe on aluminum as well. definitely not recommended on thermostat gaskets (gets in cooling system) thanks bro, it does take alot of my list as far as any MJ. -

Stopped by NAPA today and got me an oil pan gasket, apparently they had 2 of them one that came in pieces and a one-piece gasket, i got the one piece of course. now all I need to do is find some 10W-30 Amsoil and a gasket grinder then I'll jump on that. Also got 2 bottles of gear oil from Autozone with a pump (squeezing sucks), I had used both bottles completely on the BA10/5.... it is definitely time to replace the transmission. I will be doing an AX-15 swap as soon as I can find one. -

I know this might be a little redneck of me, but thats who I am and it works! Its been really cold lately and the air coming thru the doors are driving me nuts. So i stopped by my wifes work at home depot and picked up some weatherstripping for $12, cheap and effective. After doing that the door leaks stopped, but found another, under the center console ugh.. Thats another day! Ps. just hit 225k miles! (not that its correct with the 31s...) -

Today was my last day at Autotire, soon Ill be a Jeep tech! We had few going on so i took this opportunity to use the lift and change out both of my rear park brake cables. I got the pair at NAPA for like $35. It was very easy to change out since the old one was rusted and you could just snap off the lock-clips then pull the cables. After the new cables were installed i adjusted the drum brakes, everything is all good! now I can park it in neutral ;) -

Went by advance and autozone today and got a bunch of goodies. -Magnetic led light, for the cab and under hood, very easy, cheap, and bright as hell, forget those hard to find original cab lights. -compass, have to have one for Jeeps -tune up parts (spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, KN air filter, fuel filter) -back up lamps, still don't work, probably switch on transmission. -horn, mines missing -Steering wheel, pain in the @$$ to install, horn still don't work -oil pressure sending unit, still don't work, pressure beyond max. -parking brake cables, on the way -thermostat, gonna do a cooling flush as well I STRONGLY suggest every MJ owner to go and grab that magnetic LED light for the cab and underhood or whatever, best interior lighting in a Jeep ever. Thats all for now, jeep runs better but some kinks aint fixed yet. -

Today i had gotten 4 new BFG 31s, Also fixed my loose brake caliper, just needed a bolt. One of my coworkers did alignment, steers straight and true. My boss fixed the exhaust issue so it would pass MO safety inspections. State sucks... But i iust got the turn down method which was super cheap. Ill get a better exhaust system later. Thats all for now! I'm going to the parts store and make new friends lol. -

Here is a picture of the truck the day I picked it up -
Hey guys, its been a while since i been on this forum, I had sold my '86 months ago. BUT I Just got a new jeep, and named it Wyatt i had crashed my '91 miata and totaled it out, the results were $4000 and a good eye! I found this beaut 120 miles away from me and grabbed it, the wife and I agreed on $1,000 limit to spend, and ive already added a list lol. it is a nicely painted black '88 Pioneer 4x4 4.0 5spd shortbed with bucket seats, what more can i ask for in a MJ? well ofc the chrysler systems from the 91-92 and a stroker, but thats later. While i was at work i had done alot of work on the truck. I had immediately found out there was an black trans fluid leak, and surprise its a Peugeot BA-10. That will be a project later. I had done oil change, filter bypass, brake flush, etc. It needed tires, and since it already has a lift with worn 31s, It will need new tires, i can get a set of BFGs from my work for $600. Also i plan to flush all systems, replace steering wheel with horn, alignment, weatherstripping, lighting, etc. Check on the thread once a while! I will be posting.

Instrument Cluster
Comanche_Fanatic replied to Comanche_Fanatic's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I prefer lights, since I don't have to switch out any parts. Originality is the key here, anything out of place just scares me. I'll look in the junkyards but I'd like a new one preferably -
Instrument Cluster
Comanche_Fanatic replied to Comanche_Fanatic's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Mine has only fuel and speed gauge, so I guess idiot lights. All the bulbs have been replaced, yes all 18 bulbs, thanks napa for bulk prices. My fuel gauge is incorrect, the sender is NEW, and my coolant light is bugging the hell out of me, even tho the coolant sensor has been replaced with an aftermarket one its not in the circuit anymore, I wonder how its possible for it to light up on an open circuit.. -
Instrument Cluster
Comanche_Fanatic replied to Comanche_Fanatic's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
don't know what u mean by idiot lights or full cluster. '86 XLS 4x4 2.8L 3spd auto, no it doesnt have a tachometer. -
Why Are The 2.8's So Bad?
Comanche_Fanatic replied to comanche1989's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
2.8L had bad design flaws (blame GM on this one) so theyre not as durable as the AMC motors. personally I'd only use it for highway at 70mph steady, other than that scrap it. vacuum system is horrible on this motor, half of mine is missing, i don't even bother with it. -
ive been having trouble locating an new instrument cluster for my truck, i suspect my fuel gauge and coolant light are both brokenand i want to switch them out to see if it fixes the problem. anyone know where i can find one
-
Ive been trying to fix this damn gauge since i bought it so far still no luck. the sending unit has be replaced, and the wires and all grounds leading to the cab have been checked. i have a gut feeling that the instrument cluster may have something to do with this, it seems the circut runs along with the coolant light(which is red constantly) any input?

'86 Xls Fuel Tank Size?
Comanche_Fanatic replied to Comanche_Fanatic's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I need a 100% sure way to check the fuel tank size, ive been hearing theres 16, 17, 18, 20, and 23 gal tanks for MJs. I've already ordered the part and its for the 23.5 gal tank i just now found out someone drew a number 16 on top of the tank. -
