  1. My rod bearings r shot, need new motor, preferably one with low miles or rebuilt, strokers okay too. Located in Warner Robins, GA, contact me (478)283-8881 for details
  2. yep it will fit, id like a new one with the upper tint, local glass shops or safelite has them in stock. very helpful when driving with the sun in your face!
  3. No slack or noise, it will do fine.
  4. Tried to start my truck one morning and it clanked and went dead. As I kept trying to crank it, the jeep finally tried to turn over but there was a really bad misfire and clanked dead again. I looked at the oil sump and found two dents from the inside, seems that the rods punched its way thru, coolant was also found dripping. The motor is dead, i will be looking for a newer one later. It was gonna be replaced anyways with a stroker engine. However i did find a transfer case to match the AX-15, its a 249 from a '94 ZJ and will serve me well in the future. Not many use full-time 4x4 with a stick! The swap will be even easier now, i only have to do the engine, transmission, and transfer case at once. Only downside is having to get it towed to my work and finding time to do the swap.
  5. Got my t-case recently, its a 249 from a '94 ZJ. Will serve me well in the future.
  6. Lately my interior and dash lights have been screwing up, including the radio and cig lighter. Whenever the dash lights go out the radio and cig lighters go out too. I had suspected power runs through the headlamp switch so i pulled the dash and cluster off to get a good look at the switch. I couldn't remove the switch cause theres not nuf room for my hand. So i tried cleaning it with electrical cleaner. After a while my dash lights came back hut stays at full brightness at any setting when i turn the knob. Should i go ahead and order new headlamp switch? Of so how would i replace it?
  7. Batterys bad! Still hard start with new battery
  8. Months ago, thats how i found it
  9. If we could find the old thread for this truck it would be very helpful..
  10. I don't understand your question
  11. My tilt steering got way to loose i had to do something so began this long and difficult process to get to the loose bolts tightened back up. Glad its done and over with..
  12. Just got my new job at Jeep! On my free time i finished wiring the horn and foglamps. Its also been so cold my shifter boot broke off the plastic.. So i replaced thermostat and got a heater, turns out the 12V outlet is rusted so i ordered another one.
  13. I can't tell you what a relief it is to hear all this, especially on my birthday. thanks guys y'all been a big help. now I know what to get and I'm sure I can take it from here, I may ask some more questions in the near future about the transmission itself. Happy New Years Jeepers!
  14. theyre all medium inputs. looks like I have to get 2 t-cases to make one work. or just get a 231 from a wrangle AX15, then i can deal with all this when I have more time in the future.
  15. newer is always better, I will be getting a 94+ 242. it seems that I won't be able to find a factory, 23-spline, short input gear 242 from 94+. even if it does exist what vehicle would it be from.
  16. can't you just be happy I decided to go with the 242 and discuss that t-case lol.
  17. thank you, now I have to search for 94+ 23 spline all i need to know now is the input length and if the yokes match MJ axles. would I have to search for 242s out of an XJ? arent theyre harder to find?
  18. the idea of the 249 will be scrapped due to axles, it wouldnt be a true quadratrac without the ZJ axles which several people despise. I will go ahead and search for the 242 instead, like several said, the best of both worlds. plus 4-full time would help me on those bad snow days. all discussions have be moved to new thread http://comancheclub.com/topic/41436-231-242-swap-with-96-ax15/ MOD- please close thread, thanks!
  19. this thread started from the 231 > 249 swap which the idea has been scrapped and will begin the hunt for selec-trac system. i will be keeping both front and rear axles, but the BA10 has to go, i have gotten a external salve, 23 spline, AX15 fron a '96 XJ 4.0 4x4. which year, model, etc 242 would i need to search for to avoid mismatches? i think theyre all 23 splines but are they supposed to be short input or long input? does the year affect the bolt on capabilities? will the rear driveshaft need to be modified?
  20. yes i meant D44 sorry about that. I figured that a 249 and axles out of a 5.9L ZJ Quadratrac would be easier to fit in, but since you said the XJs are better I will look into that direction. doesnt the 5.9 ZJ QT axles have limited slip system? compared to selectrac on the XJs of course. on my other thread someone had mentioned the 242 as well, I do like selec-trac but they lack limited slip, so far I've found the 249 will bolt onto the AX15 given that it has a short input. and theyre all 23 spline. all i need to know is about the driveshaft lengths for the 249. if the same I'll grab one. I'm a fan of Quadratrac, they saved my @$$ several times by surprise. besides in Missouri the DOT does horrible work plowing snow, so there are patches of snow/ice still on the highway while most will be dry. it would save me the effort of having to shift from 2wd-4wd. even offroad i prefer the 249 over the 242 i have several options for the crossmember. either a new crossmember from rustys, a TJ trans mount, or a tcase drop kit. i will research more on those after ive made my decision on the tcase.
  21. you rock dude, so I will need a 249 short input to pair with the ax15, and a bypass to top it off. yes i am aware of the VC that will go bad, I don't drive my Jeep that much and will be relocating within 3 miles of my job. I had considered the 242 but the 4-full time isnt the same as the 249 since theres no limited slip and less power to the front from park.
  22. I have an '88 Pioneer 4.0 4x4 BA10/5 D35 I just got an '96 AX15(external) yesterday, along with clutch/flywheel/salve cylinder/etc, it has 23 splines output shaft. it came off an '96 XJ 4x4 4.0L. I know i will be getting a few more parts for the transmission swap. my current tcase is the 231 with the BA10 is a 21 spline, so I'm looking for a replacement tcase. I'm a fan of the 249 so I'm researching as much as I can about this, its hard so far cause most go the other direction. I am not 100% sure it will bolt onto the AX15 perfectly, and if I have to swap out/shorten driveshafts. if i have to lengthen the rear driveshaft by 1" i will look into a D45 rear to compensate for that. and will some disassembly be required between the 231/249 to fit right? Yes I am aware I will have to replace the front axle as well to eliminate the vacuum system. I am gathering as much info so I can order parts in advance and reserve a few days for this swap project. all i want is a confirmation that the 249 will bolt onto the AX15(23spline/external), if so, what year 249 is required for a '96 AX15? as far as I've read is that some ZJ models swapping from 249 to 231, and doesnt require changing out driveshafts. some dis-assembly is done tho. and some people have mentioned that the year of the tcase makes a world of difference. any info would be very helpful, please stay on topic as well. thanks in advance!
  23. in said swap from 249 to 242 in the ZJs do they get different driveshafts? if not that means the two tcases dimensions are close and almost a direct swap? i know some disassemble is needed between the two to make it functional. i have read some threads on ZJ 249>231 swaps, and the op confirmed keeping stock driveshafts. but I have also read it depends on the year of the tcases, which makes a world of difference. I have the 231 and I'm researching into a 249, remember this is my truck and I prefer the 249s over all tcases, ive never had any problems with one so far. I understand all the Jeepers prefer their settings and such, remember each is their own. if the tcase swap requires a longer driveshaft than the one I have now then I will scrap the idea(or look into D45[1" diff]) and rebuild/replace my current tcase. but if it requires a shorter driveshaft then I can shorten it and order a custom front driveshaft(or not) its a hard topic to research since many people don't do it. but I'm doing my best.
  24. I agree on using gl3 vs gl5, one thing that has me puzzled is alldata says use gl5 on ax15s, oddly. My 2 cents would be with redline 75w90, would only need like 3 litres. Somebody needs to correct this on alldata for sure tho
  25. gotcha, now might be a good time to get a NP249
