no start, bad starter?
lostissues replied to lostissues's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
when i press the button (turn the key) the gauge goes from arond 12 and drops to nothing. then slowly climbs back up i also forgot to say that its a battery from walmart, so a pooie battery is not out of the question. -
no start, bad starter?
lostissues replied to lostissues's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
when i had the batteries hooked up together, the truck was getting 12 volts, i tested in the fuse box where the starter button gets its power form and it was also getting 12 volts. -
my comanche has been sitting for a while, i went to start it the other day and it didnt do anything, not a suprise, so i grabbed the trickle charger we had and started charging it. when i push the button to start it (installed by previous owner) it sounds like the starter moter will turn over once and then stop, like it doesnt have enough power. today i ran a set of jumper cables over from my car to jump it but it did the same thing, if i held the button it would do a "wooorrr...one second pause...wooorrr" and repeate that. so it either seams that I'm not able to provide enough amperage for it to turn over correctly or i have a falty part somewhere. anyone have this before? Thanks, Jonathan

diy alignment instructions please
lostissues replied to lostissues's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
ok, i think this may be simple but i just want to go over my thought process, I'm just looking to do the toe (i think) so i believe all i have to do is measure the tire half way up on the forward side of the axle. and measure the distance from that point to the same point on the other tire. then do the same thing on the same tire, just to the rear of the axle. then i sould take the average and set both the measurements the same. then i should toe in (birds eye view of the front tires with the hood facing towords the bottom of the page) like this \-----/ 1/16th to 1/8th of an inch? hopefully i understand this and am thinking this correctly. Thanks, Jonathan -

thank you, it looks a little less... well crappy with the black doors. i do have the other set and i have them cut down, if you go back a few pages you can see the ones that i made. i just have to weld them together and do a few finishing things, then i will be able to rock the half doors. i think you may have ment to start a new thread, you can use a site like picturetrail.com to host pics, as for parts, it depends on what you are looking for, try posting in the classified sections someone may have extra parts, or you can keep your eyes open for a parts truck also raid the local junk yards. best of luck with your project. well i got the stearing components that i ordered a while ago in today and put them in. now as you can guess when we put it on we did a crappy job of not moving stuff to keep the alignment as dead on as possible. so now its kinda an eyeball thing. so my question is does anyone know of a way to do a diy alignment, step by step (ooo baby) instructions or a site that has them. I'm not looking to do this and leave it. i want to get it good enough to drive it somewhere that someone who isnt an idiot :D do it for me. also, what does and alignment cost usualy? thanks, Jonathan

ok, its been a little while but i did make a little progress, i got a new throttle body off a friend and put it in, that fixed the ghetto return spring that made for a hard accelerator. i got the quick disconnects on. (i don't have any pics of these). i got bored and sanded and rattle canned the doors and other stuff that wasnt black, you know that rust colored stuff all over the place  . today the long awated stearing parts came in. jacked up and the tires off. ok jacked up old stuff off, now is the time not to move stuff, to keep it in alignment... oh @#$%... that looks straight right? back together almost. got interupted by dinner and will finish another day. well the main parts on on, i still need to attach the stearing dampiner hardware. now as you can guess when we put it on we did a crappy job of not moving stuff to keep the alignment as dead on as possible. so now its kinda an eyeball thing. so my question which i will also post in the tech section is does anyone know of a way to do a diy alignment, step by step (ooo baby) instructions or a site that has them. I'm not looking to do this and leave it. i want to get it good enough to drive it somewhere that someone who isnt an idiot :D do it for me. also, what does an alignment cost usualy? thanks, Jonathan -

well, the show was awsome, lots of jeeps, lots of fun. There was also one comanche, he participated in the crawl and was a great crowd pleaser. i will include some pics and a crappy video i was able to shoot with my camera phone. i talked to the owner after the show and told him about this site, i didn't have any magnets on my cause i forgot them at the house, but he said he will drop in and check it out. here is a link to the video and here are a few pics of it: i got a few pics but not many, i will try to get the ones that my sister took also but here is a few of mine: there were a lot more jeeps there, i was just looking at them and didnt think to take pictures.

Aftermarket Front Bumper
lostissues replied to summerinmaine's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm also considering this bumper, it says it has the stearing box tie in bolts for added contact points. the only thing that i would want is to have the side protection on it like with his regular winch bumper. i found a guy on jeepforum that had this bumper on his xj, he sent me some pics: i would love it if it had the side protection like his other one: I'm sure you have looked at JCR's bumper, very nice, a little expensive. the other one i was looking at was this one: http://ajsoffroadarmor.com/Front%20Bump ... mpers.html realy nice looking. hope this helps. gauge cluster, will this work?
lostissues replied to lostissues's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs

gauge cluster, will this work?
lostissues replied to lostissues's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
so am I or am i not going to be able to use that cluster? i know that i will have to change the sensors. is there a change between the year, engine, drive train, anything, or did they use one gauge cluster for all (asside from the mechanical/electronic spedo)? -
there is an 86 with an auto trans with a full gauge cluster at the JY, I'm looking to put it in my 87 with a maunal tranny, will this work? all it has to have it the mechanical spedo right? then the sensor swaps. Thanks, Jonathan

ok, i knew there was a thread about this so i figured i would throw my story in here. it happened yesterday, i was driving home in my subaru with my brother in law (Jackel18) and we saw up ahead, a suv pulled off the side of the road in the other direction. it had its lights flashing and there was a women on the side of the road, we were both like, "WTF is this?" well there were 2 18 wheelers passing the pulled over suv, they had to come into the other lane, so in turn i had to go into the breakdown lane as to give them more room so as we pass by her we are still like "whats she doing" all of a sudden, tha thump, i said "what was that" and my brother in law looked back to see the woman jump a little and put her hands up to her head. well turns out i flattened a little turtle. the best part is that had this stupid women not pulled over to "save" this little turtle, the trucks wouldnt have had to avoid her and i wouldnt have had to avoid them and i would have avoided squising the turtle. all in all, a very ironic and funny story. ok, i had it in my head that my engine was radicaly different most i had seen, as it turns out the looks a lot alike. here is mine, i was able to take some pics: can i just take off that nut and replace the spring? you can see it much better in the pics provided by ROADLESS. Thanks, Jonathan EDIT: damn that is one clean engine Roadless, new parts or just some good old elbow grease?

I'm bumping this up in hopes to get the info i need, this is an 87 4.0 non HO motor, the spring that doesnt work is the one returns the throttle back to the closed position, i don't know the exact name of this part, I'm looking to see if this spring can be replaced and how, or is it an assembely and cannot be taken apart, i tried to call a jeep dealer and my lack of knowledge and crappy explanations got me no where. i tried looking through the site to see if i could find someone with a pic of it but most are the high output with the 4 torx bolts, but mine is doesnt look like that. Please any help would be awsome, if anyone has a pic of that type of engine they could throw up that would help also, i would but I'm at work, um errr working hard  so i cannot take a pic myself. Thanks. Jonathan

you could probably fit some 4 maybe 5 1/4 inch speakers in the dash, the door is a better place for a tweeter, if you put it in the lower dash all the highs are directed towards your groin, you are supposed to hear highs in your ears, the lows/sub is what you are supposed to fell around that area Jonathan
