  1. All of the wires from the harness in the Comanche were already cut/spliced when I got it....so I had to bust out the 1988 electrical Renix Bible and look at the radio schematic. I just spliced the wires, connected with wire nuts, and connected the harness that came with the headunit. I also ran new speaker wires.
  2. The CD player that came with this was an aftermarket "Pop-in" style CD method that dinged like a cassette tape. It didn't suck in the CD like most others. Complete piece of crap haha. Literally anything was an upgrade from that. Plus this truck is from the 80s with 2 door speakers. Anybody expecting "studio" quality stuff in a vehicle like this living in La La land. Alpine or Kenwood only have the single din with the small LCD screen. I've been driving modern vehicles too much to go back to the traditional CD player that most of us have in our Jeeps. Also since this has carplay and Android Auto, it has completely changing my experience in the Jeep since I have manual trans. It has definitely freed up my hands....and I can do more driving and less messing with my phone.
  3. Yea I looked at those on Amazon, and I went with the one I posted because it was the only one with volume buttons or knob. All of the other single din touchscreens require use of remote control for volume. The volume knob was the gamebreaker for me. I wanted to upgrade the technology but also keep it simple since the oem radio had knobs. I always thought the little remote that comes with most aftermarket stereos is stupid.
  4. No I didn't have to trim anything....but it is a tight fit. The black trim was slightly shaved/melted on the bottom edge by whoever owned this before me back in the 1990s to fit a basic single din CD player but like barely shaved. It's still within the rectangle. A millimeter bigger and I probably would have had to slightly modify the black trim to sit lower. Fits perfect
  5. Found a nice single din Android head unit for the Comanche. Fits nicely, simple to use, has volume knobs, has wireless Apple carplay, and wireless Android Auto. Radio Antenna connects easily and sounds good. Has great sound quality. https://www.amazon.com/Single-Wireless-Carplay-Android-Bluetooth/dp/B0CJT47W2W/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?crid=Z7REH4CBSQLX&keywords=single+din+android+head+unit&qid=1701821902&sprefix=single+din+and%2Caps%2C125&sr=8-4#aw-udpv3-customer-reviews_feature_div
  6. In that case I'm just going to but a new filter and new hoses since they are cracking.
  7. so mine has the replaceable filter.....but how would I go about putting new activated charcoal in it? IDK just seemed logical that a generic plastic evap canister with relatively same size would work in this case without having to mess with filters or replacing the charcoal.
  8. Would this Dorman vapor canister work as a replacement for the OEM AMC canister on 87 2.5L? I don't feel like cracking open the original and making a mess. https://www.amazon.com/Dorman-911-261-Evaporative-Emissions-Charcoal/dp/B07KFZ1WPW/ref=asc_df_B07KFZ1WPW/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=330440990362&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=13931123272004678189&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9013748&hvtargid=pla-635725856126&psc=1&mcid=974588679fd639fcbe232a2557a322b7&tag=&ref=&adgrpid=66704631099&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvadid=330440990362&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=13931123272004678189&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9013748&hvtargid=pla-635725856126&gclid=CjwKCAiA1fqrBhA1EiwAMU5m_2O5dfxiiFbgnb3henB865f3VVkgyeCzE_W6Xnkfy9Jgdl66muJdsxoC25UQAvD_BwE
  9. Seems like a pain in the butt to reach. Any tips? Obviously will need pb blaster, but should I try to remove from top or underneath?
  10. Yea the main motivation behind me wanting to do it is a suspected exhaust leak near the manifold. Sounds louder by the engine than it used to and I smell exhaust/gas in cab every time I run the truck. Just trying to identify all possible sources of the smell.
  11. Just thought I'd get to see if there are any write-ups for this before I get started this week. I searched the site and I couldn't find anything specific to the 2.5L.
  12. I just stumbled across this article and I greatly appreciate yall posting this stuff. I plan on inspecting my exhaust manifold on my 87 4cyl this week and was looking for a how-to on removing throttle body. I might as well go ahead and clean/service mine while I have it removed. Is this the kit I need for the throttle body? https://www.amazon.com/Standard-Motor-Products-1605-TBI/dp/B000C7XKPI
  13. @eaglescout526 any particular dryer I should get for the 2.5L?
  14. this looks like it would work. https://www.amazon.com/ACTECmax-Universal-Compressor-Clutch-Sanden/dp/B083BBBR3D/ref=pd_sbs_sccl_3_1/140-5491761-4716830?pd_rd_w=Nxuvi&content-id=amzn1.sym.368860b3-210c-423c-90a6-0753fc75e40d&pf_rd_p=368860b3-210c-423c-90a6-0753fc75e40d&pf_rd_r=EXGE3589E0APY7JJ5ZT6&pd_rd_wg=TAU2C&pd_rd_r=d0d3ac95-c069-46e9-8c83-f5b0b9f6d19d&pd_rd_i=B083BBBR3D&psc=1
  15. I'm assuming I'll need new O rings as well? Also I need the Sanden 508 for the 2.5L?
  16. I appreciate it. No mine has not been converted and still has the r12. Please let me know everything I need to convert it. I plan on tackling AC/heat as soon as I finish replacing valve cover, radiator, and electric fan conversion this weekend.
  17. Anybody know if this kit will work? https://jeepair.com/products/1987-1990-comanche-compressor-kit-with-4-diameter-drier?variant=32067024158805
  18. Also I am still educating myself on repairing one on an MJ. Any how-to threads pertaining to this topic?
  19. what makes the Sanden 708 good for this?...and are there other replacement compressors you recommend. I would like to keep my AC but most important thing to me right now is getting that alignment straight for my belt.
  20. also do you think its possible someone put the pulley on backwards? When I try to compare pics it appears that way but not sure.
  21. so I considered getting a bypass pulley but it appears thats a pain in the a** to find for the 2.5L MJ/XJ. I may just have to bite the bullet and buy a new compressor.
  22. Sounds good. I'll check in later. I just got done pulling the original power steering pulley to bend some dents out of it. I would buy a new one but these are impossible to find.
  23. Eagle can you send me pic of your compressor and engine bay so I can compare? I know you have the 2.5L
  24. After having a few belts shred recently...I discovered that my ac compressor pulley sticks out too far and is not aligned with the other pulleys. Not sure if this is due to an aftermarket compressor that doesn't fit or what. I've owned this for 20 years and never noticed it until now.
