So i redid the vaccume system today. The PO had capped much of the fittings when he did the engine swap. I just took the hoses out of the 1990 and put them in the MJ, and using the vaccume diagram i reassembled it all except for 1 hose, and i don't know where it goes. It seems to run a little smoother now, and I'm happy about that. However it seems to have a knock now, and I'm not happy about that. I also discovered somthing else. See below pics. New Vaccume Hoses. The Crew! XJ Seats ready to be swapped in. Frame Rail. Is this bent? It looks like a bad recovery attempy happened to that "frame rail", and you can see that the metal is ripped and shredded. I'm also wondering if the frame rail is bent. it does not look symetrical to the other side. I will measure the distance between these rails and the ones on my 1990 to double check.

WOW. i enjoyed looking at those pics. thanks for posting them. ill also be waiting for the next installment. -
is it just me or does the red one in the add look photoshopped in there?
-

not sure what axle you are talking about here, but for the rear, its the same one that i bought the truck with. Before. After. the front axle is a bit weird here. apparently he flodded the axle with water, and he had to replace it, so he replaced it with a different axle that is NOT the same as the MJ axle...so now i need different front brake parts  i have the origional front axle that came with the truck, because it was in the bed when we towed it home. the calipers/pads/rotors fit THAT axle, but not the axle that is on the MJ now. The axle that is on my 1990 XJ is the same as the one on the MJ so thats how i came to that conclusion.
-
o yeah, and the parts i ordered from autozone for my MJ don't fit. the guy who ownded it before me swapped out an XJ axle and the calipers/rotors/pads are totaly different.

update time...WITH pics! so i got working on that D44 this weekend. on sunday i wirebrushed the living daylights out of it and beat it with a chisel hammer to get the rust off. then i used marine clean, and metal ready to prep the axle. i don't think i did it right tho because there was a lot of white stuff left over after i rinsed off the metal ready, but i cleaned that off and went ahead with the painting. before paint after paint i only got 1 coat done, and i did it late so the dew is now sitting on paint that isnt dry yet

they replaced seals, bearings, and retainers....cost me $207.02. do you guys think it was worth it?

well i brought the axle shafts down to a shop today to have the new backing plates put onto the shafts. there was a collar that was pressed on to the shaft and i couldnt get it off. hopefully it won't cost a lot of money.

wow, thats a long list. good luck with everything!!

sooo little update time. should have the sand blaster working this week, so ill blast my D44 to put back in the jeep. havent decided if I'm going to paint it with POR15 or rustoleum yet. ordered new backing plates from Jeep. from autozone i got... REAR -Drums -Shoes -Hardware kit -Wheel cylinder kit Front -Calipers -Rotors -Pads i still have a few more things to get before i can start...but ill have enough to keep me busy for a long time.

ok then that makes it a lot easier to know that the MJ does not have ABS. sofar i have bought new backing plates, brake drums, brake shoes, wheel cylinders, hardware kit, rotors, pads, and calipers. the brake lines on the MJ now are either snapped, have a bolt threaded into them, or held together with duct tape. I'm going to try to get my uncle to give me a hand with the brakes...becuase i don't feel 100% confident by myself. thanks for the quick replies guys.

ive been buying everything to re-do the brakes on my MJ (front and rear) and will be beginning this project within the next week. my master cylinder is posing some problems though. when you press the pedal it goes to the floor. i don't know why, and i need some help with this. what should i look for...and what do you suggest? also, my 1990 XJ which is off the road has a perfectly good master cylinder, however it has ABS. i have heard that the XJ and the MJ master cylinder will be incompatable. i pulled off the covers and both said "Bendix 2229939" on the rubber bladder. is this a part number? is there a chance that they will be compatable? i know that the XJ has ABS, and I'm pretty sure that the MJ does not have ABS. can somone assist me with this...does the MJ have ABS? thanks!

the gray interior of my MJ is in rough shape. the previous owner has screwed a CB radio into the dash, and it looks terrible. ive just started disasembling my dash in my 1990 XJ, and i was wondering if its possible to remove this Image Not Found its kind of a bad picture, but its the best i have. if you don't get what i mean, i will take a better pic. basicaly its just the whole dashboard. its plastic so i know its not part of the unibody. should i be looking for screws? thanks

lol wrong thing to say. is the gasket not leaking any more?

brake question. (little update)
Twisty replied to Twisty's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
ive been looking at discs....but i still need a decent backing plate to use (unless i find some D44 discs). ive been talking with the seller about getting my money back...and things look like they're going well. i found some plates online from a grand wagoneer site that sell them for $74 new...and they say that they work with cherokees up to 1991. -
what years was the D60 available in the f-350?

brake question. (little update)
Twisty replied to Twisty's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
well i sent him a email about it but he didnt answer the message. so i bid. then he answered. they're off of a grand waggy and he said the plate is 12"...which is bad cause the plates on my d44 are only 11 inches. looks like ill have to re-list them on ebay. EDIT: I just found this...maybe it will fit after all. it says that the backing plate will fit cherokees up to 1991. -
brake question. (little update)
Twisty replied to Twisty's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
i just talked with the seller. they are NOT holes. just spots where the "crud was rubbed off" and he said that there are NO rust holes. still wondering if these will fit my MJ d44?
