I'm looking into lift kits and want to decide what i'm getting now so i can crunch some numbers and start saving My question: would this cherokee lift kit work on an mj even though mj's are a leaf under axle? http://rustysoffroad.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=rustys&Product_Code=RK-605SPC-XJ&Category_Code=sus_xj_kit thanks for the help in advance

finally got a couple odd jobs for some cash, looking into bushwacker fenders.. i probably won't swap the drive train until i get a permanent job, hopefully won't be that long. Sadly i have nothing to update on my truck, i'm keeping my addiction going though, i swapped the radiator in a neighborhood girl's car.. (her mom loves me now).. and currently giving a major tune up and new water pump in a buddy's 96 dodge dakota 4x4, he has a NP231 and i keep telling him i'm going to steal it :wrench: P.S. if anyone can answer my question above, i'd appreciate it, Thanks for checking out my build page

...if you have to explain over and over again to your friends that working on your truck is like a drug for you .......then they ask you when you're going to be done.. your response, as long as i'm alive and it's in my driveway, there's work to be done

but even if the axle is always locked, and transfer case isn't, will that effect mileage Are there any differences in the mounting of the 92 into my truck?

i'm liking the work. keep it up. its nice to see someone local, I'm in west wichita. What are some of your future goals for this truck? -
Where did you get the plastic "water barriers" for the doors? other than that, your attention to detail is amazing. i just read all 18 pages! KEEP IT UP!

"Dump Humper" 89 Comanche rebuild
bottomline89 replied to JENSSEN's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
i think its just about time for a new name for this rebuild, very nice fabrication *subscribed* -
mine was stuck in a ditch, 2wd and high center took over and they pulled at the center of the rear bumper.. wasnt mine at the time though, i strategically backed it into a tree and it straightened it right out
-
i looked it up, its actually a pioneer :D , with the optional tachometer, nothings been modified really
-
little update. I'm definitely swapping out for a 4x4 drivetrain, found an 88 cherokee. i was in the mj tech section and someone told me my truck wasnt a base model so i ran the VIN and it came up as a pioneer  probably won't have another update until summer starts and i get the time to work on it again
-
will the vin number tell me what it is?
-
and my mirrors are in the front corner of the glass, there's a pic of them on my build page in my signature. :wrench:
-
this is the current set up in my mj
-
ok, i can do that if necessary
-
my only goal is to turn my 2WD MJ into a 4X4
-
Got it :D so are there any major problems in the swapping of the drivetrain? I'm probably going to keep my engine and rear axle unless he has something better, i have a dana 35 but i bet the xj has the same
-
Are the frames the same? if you can get the bodies off the frame then why couldn't you put one on the other? Trying not to be hateful... just a question :dunno: what do you mean by unibody?
-
I have an 89 base mj 2wd 4.0 regular bed I found an 88 Pioneer xj 4x4 4.0 4dr both are 5 sp. but i don't know if his is peugotI or ax. Is it possible to switch either the bodies or the drive trains? the reason i ask that is because i havent decided which way i'd like to do it. What other problems may i face with this conversion? and can i avoid more problems going one way or the other? (bodies or drivetrains)

I just have a general idiot question. Any additional info is great. Whats the difference between locking and open differencial? Whats a disco? i hear people talking aboout it all the time on the site. What's an ideal gear ratio for me, its a DD so i need the mpg but i've gotta "ticking time bomb" Dana 35 right now and i'm going to try to make it a 4x4 for a summer project and will probly hit a couple trails so i still need the performance. I do understand the basic concept of gear ratios, i just don't know what the good compromise would be. Any feedback is appreciated. I'm sure i'll have more questions, i'm just trying to learn the ropes :help:

Project bulletproof: 88 MJ short bed 4x4

To be honest, at first the thought of huculining the whole truck scared me, but i like the look. Makes it look tough. Besides durability, what r the pro's and con's of the liner? -
