Having trouble passing Smog. Replaced rotor, cap, wires, plug, o2 sensor, cleaned injectors , new cat etc, figures are way down but mechanic says probably need EGR to get it to pass, except this is a federal car so never had an EGR. only fail is : NO (PPM) 25 mph MAX 609 AVE 265 MEAS 893

thanks for the link. And yep, thats the ignition switch. Can get the rod to move but it won't stay.
-
you said "Yes and yes, you will have to pull the ignition switch off the side of the column and move the rod" i've unbolted the ignition switch and tried moving the rod into the start position but it doesnt want to stay. Am i doing something wrong ? Also, i've tracked down the metal tab that was broken, its a rack and sector gear, i imagine i'm going to have to disassemble the whole column and remove the collar to install a new one ?
-
realised what you meant and got the switch off but doesnt have 4 positions of slide just 2.... and rod fell out. IMG_0406.MOV

this bolt ? IMG_0395.HEIC but the other side of the column is obscured by more wires IMG_0397.HEIC

If the metal tab, that operates when the plastic cog is turned with the key, is broken, is there a chance that the ignition is not turned on ? And is there a way to turn the ignition on manually on the ignition switch lower down on the steering column? If so, anything to watch out for ?
-
Regarding the steering wheel lock, when it's engaged, the ignition is off, and vice versa, when its released ignition is on ? The reason i ask is the metal tab that runs along the plastic cog behind it broke off, steering lock pin doesnt move. I'm trying to remove the ignition cylinder. there's no retaining screw to hold the cylinder in and i can't find any circlip, yet i can't pull the cylinder out. Should the steering lock be released and ignition on ...in order to pull ignition cylinder out ?
