Driveshaft Part #52098169
Catatonic Comanche replied to Catatonic Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I wouldn't even guess that it is much longer than 4-feet in length. The MJ is away being painted so I do not have the ability to compare. Currently, the DANA 35 is still on the MJ. I remember the last time I looked under my MJ with the 35, the old driveshaft appeared to be in excess of 5-feet. I am guessing that the factory 44 that I will be swapping in the near future will make up for some of the shortness of the subject OEM driveshaft. Thanks! Paul -
The subject OEM part number is supposed to the a stock Metric-Ton Package driveshaft for an MJ with the following features: Shortbox/AT/4x4/DANA 44/3.54 So why is it so short? Thanks, Paul

Mine came like clockwork two years after I completed my active duty, i.e., 6+2...

Fly the flag at your MJ's own risk the second your back is turned. As far as "LIVE FREE and DIE" is concerned, I spent six years of my life in the Army working for those who are either determined to "LIVE FREE AND DIE" as well as those who are determined to openly protest. So please feel free to go ahead and "LIVE FREE and DIE" on me. I risked my own life and fought for your right to do so from 1988-1994... You're welcome, :beerhead: Paul

Why not do both AND get Jimmy Buffett Parrothead plates! BwaHaHaHa! :rotf:

Good luck with sporting the Stars & Bars. I descend from many Confederate veterans (none of them owned slaves) and although I remain proud of their undying loyalty to Virginia, I don't want my windows busted out by some uneducated, left-winged, freakish punk who believes that the Confederate Flag was invented by the KKK and stands for nothing but racism and the opression of another race. There are a lot of sick puppies out there and just be forewarned that you might not be present when they get set-off by your flag and decide to reek havoc and take it out on your MJ. Some jerks are so sick in the brain that they would vandalize a vehicle over a simple magnetic logo of their favorite sports team's rival so I refuse to sport any New England Patriots logos on my MJ as well. In Virginia, the DMV offers 'Jimmy Buffett' Parrothead plates as well. As much as I love Jimmy, I would never sport 'Parrothead' plates, for it would only further provoke the police to target me as a potential DUI. My wife's co-worker's husband has Parrothead plates and gets pulled over all of the time. Anyway, I hope your MJ doesn't get vandalized for sporting the Stars & Bars. Incognito is my policy, but that is only my worthless opinion. Good luck and best wishes... V/R Paul

Unfortunately...headliners have been discontinued through us. They didn't offer just the backer either...they were complete. Check the MOPAR Depot database, Brent. In 2003, I purchased a grey factory MJ headliner that was one of less than a dozen left in existance. I think the depot was in Milwaukee or somewhere out in the midwest. I have purchased a lot of discontinued MOPAR parts. It is usually just a matter of urging the guy behind the counter to check the depots. Hornbrod, There has been a guy on eBay that has been fabricating aftermarket MJ headliners complete with the backing...not just fabric. eBay is down as I write, but check there when you get the chance. V/R Paul

Isn't it the TJ axle that is the direct bolt-on? I already have a factory MJ DANA-44 in the rear, but always wanted a fontal '44. If the Rubicon '44 would work, I wouldn't mind splurging. But the aforementioned steering fabrication concerns me. Has anyone here on the Forum gone through this install? Paul

I wonder how much fabrication it would take to make a JK front axle fit...

If one went as far as chunking down $3K+ for a custom-designed plug & play DANA 44 front axle, which axle shop has the best experience and reputation for such a mod? What ratio would be best with dual DANA 44s? Paul

Wow! After adding all of those body parts it is as if 20 MJ junkers combined forces to restore a single Comanche! Rock on! :beerhead: V/R Paul

Converting an Auto to Manual?
Catatonic Comanche replied to 702_MJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The conversion is an easy one, but I'd rather have an auto any day of the week. Enjoy shifting gears and replacing clutches! Paul -
Seven views...no replies...amazing! Well, I won't be bashful! That MJ is immaculate! From the rust I have been battling, you have a GREAT starter MJ! Rock on, Jeepcom! :beerhead: Paul

what would you do
Catatonic Comanche replied to f1tbiker6's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
This is the same reason that I took action towards reviving my lawn ornament. My mother passed away in March and my MJ was a gift from her ten years ago. The money I spend on it now is in her honor. My deepest condolences go out to you and your family and you are making your mother proud by the very thought behind your motive. V/R Paul -

Catatonic Comanche replied to f1tbiker6's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I agree with Wade somewhat, That is a good-looking MJ and you can do a LOT with $6,000. Concentrate on the 4x4 swap axle configuration, driveshaft and lockers, etc. Wade's winch suggestion would make it badass as well! I must EMPHASIZE (and this is from personal experience) and add to Wade's recommendation...perhaps even the most important mod that you can do...RUST...if you have any rust on that MJ; wage a complete global-thermonuclear and biological campaign against every partical of those red b@st@rds! Other than my rust genocide recommendation, Wade's suggestions are excellent. Good luck with whatever you decide and I hope that you are not having to endure the loss of a loved-one as the source of the new money. Nice Rig! :beerhead: V/R Paul -
...ah-hah...and it's a true story that is! Paul
