If i use a vac disco d30 front but don't want to hook it up is there a way to bypass or what is the result of not hooking it up at all
-
I don't know bout that but since its the right gear...can make it fit my MJ...and it was free.....I'm gonna drive it like i stole it until it breaks, explodes, catches on fire, or whatever.
-
I don't know in comparison to the exploder..But it is 1.5 narrower than the 8.25 I have.
-
Thats what i am thinkin..Patience is why i am gonna run the 8.8 ranger rear i got..Its 4.10 w/locker...Yeah i know its 1 1/2" to narrow but thats how chevy's use to be from the factory...Plus it was free. Shouldnt look too bad just being 3/4 in each side.
-
No the plan is for now to find a d30 4.10 for the front...I am gonna run the ranger rear w/locker until i find a exploder 8.8 w/4.10....The salvage yards down here are on the crack pipe  ..$300-400 they want for the d30 and  $600 for the 8.8...Keep in mind i bought the whole truck for 500 bones.

gotcha...won't let that happen again..I just figured everyone was gettin tired of my axle questions..I should have this thang rolling by this weekend I will post pics of my sleevin/trussin job of the d30 by this weekend. Trying some new things. If they work i have a 2nd mj to do it to also.

 Ok i am beating a dead horse i know..I have a abundance of rear ends here..Currently running the 8.25 3.55 gear..Pulled that..Was given an 8.8 4.10 w/ locker(problem is its a 2000 ranger)..Wanted the 8.8 out of the explorer..Found one but have 2 questions...1) Does it matter if it is a V6 or V8 Explorer...2) Does the 3.73 and the 4.10 use the same carrier..Promise this is the last axle question from me. :dunce:
-
36" tires and the one i pulled out from under it looked like a smiley face.
-
butem and weldem..then gusset them top and bottom with tubing. ;)
-
When I truss my front axle i was thinking of sleevin the axle tube also. Has anybody done this? Only problem may be finding a pc of pipe or tube that fits tight enough. I already have all the brackets cut off the axle as well as removed the steering knuckles.(rotatin the knuckles to get proper geometry w/out using cv shafts).

I would have to agree w/pong. Let the engine buildup stick where it is stuck. You are just asking for problems flushing. Simple routine maint. and regular oil changes will do wonders. :wrench:
-
Well I had better have some runnin gear under this hoe by then. It's the whole 4.10 thing that is hampering my search. 3.55's out the wazoo
-
I always knew you were a nice guy Pete. :D Volunteering to bring me those axels is just plain awesome :jump: That was a volunteer wazzzn it :brows:

Story of my life. A good deal comes available but on the other side of the world..Its a long way from Atlanta,Georgia to Ontario.
-
yeah yeah..nobody likes a bragger rob :D ..I am still searching for my 4.10 d30 but have an added question...I keep gettin asked in regards to the 8.8 axle is 6cyl or 8cyl..apparently they are different..which one fits the MJ? I am rapidly getting a junkyard of axles
-
Will a dana 30 out of a TJ fit under the comanche..They look just the same in pictures but ive never checked it out in person.
-
I want the whole axle...Swapping gears aint NO fun...Not to mention I already have the front and rear out from under my truck. I am planning on cutting off the steerin knuckles(need rotated for correct geometry)...sleeving the d30 w/ tube then trussing the beeotch. I got my practice cutting off the knuckles on the d30 w/ 3.55 gears last night...Oh boy is that fun.
-
3.73 uses same carrier as the 4.10 right? What about the 8.8 rear end also..does the 3.73 8.8 use the same carrier as the 4.10?...I know the 8.8 to get is out of the 95-01 exploder but does anyone know if it is the same axle in the sport trac?
-
This seems to be a rare piece. Are there certain year models/makes that these were specifically put in so that it might help me in my search? I need one quickly. I guess a 3.73 would work as well cause i believe it uses the same carrier as the 4.10.....Right?
-
Ok..I have a bonehead question. A guy on southernjeeps.org is selling some axles (ford 9"/d44) out of a 79. He had them under his xj apparently. I was under the impression to keep the same width(without mods) MJ'ers were limited to the d30 or the rubicon 44...Am I wrong?
-
A d30 out of a 89 waggoneer will fit under a MJ won't it?
-
I am running 36's hence the whole idea behind the 8.8...I guess i could go back to square one and put the chrys 8.25 back under her..I'm gonna go ahead and take the other 8.8(ranger) since its free if for nothing else sale or trade material..Also gettin my new d30 here today so i will be trussin that bad boy up this weekend. :chillin:
-
I think i am screwed.. The guy just called me the 8.8 is NOT out of an explorer but out of a 2000 ranger...This aint gonna work is it..Nothing is gonna swap over not to mention the ranger 8.8 is not the good one of the two. :headpop:
-
Jeeezus. I hope the shafts arent different cause thats was one of the things i was thinking of doing..Gettin this one w/ the 4.10s and the locker and swapping its guts over to another 8.8 w/ disc..I'm gettin the 4.10 locker one for free so i would only be out say 250 bones for another w/ disc. :brows:
-
Ok..I have pulled the 8.25 out from under the truck to install the Ford 8.8. The 8.8 has 4.10's w/ a detroit locker..Problem is it has drum brakes. I want to convert over to disc..Who makes a kit where i am gonna get the best bang for my buck. :brows:
