  1. ever since I bought my comanche I have totally fell in love with them and in a way have become obssesed with jeep trucks! But today I hit a new low when I logged onto the internet and on got super excited when yahoo news opened and had a title "learn about MJ"....i felt pretty dumb when I clicked on it thinking somebody else realized how cool our trucks our and instead found an article on Micheal Jackson.
  2. I'm pretty sure those are from a commander. I was checking out Naxja the other day and saw a few people are starting to do the commander front end conversion on there XJ's.
  3. hey guys I'm looking for a wing window that opens (I have heard people call them smokers vent windows). I actually only need a drivers side but if somebody is only willing to sell a set I would be interested in that also. If ya got one that you are willing to ship let me know. Thanks. This is for a 89 comanche drivers side door
  4. ah I feel like a dope. Once I pulled the door panel off and stuck a light in there I realized replacing a regulator is a piece of cake. Just pop the rivets off and pull it out!
  5. hey guys, does anybody know of a step by step guide on how to take out and then replace your manual window regulators? I searched the forum and saw a couple people have replaced them but nobody really explains how. Even a good picture of the inside of our doors would help, I can't even find that....my haynes manual has tiny pics of only a small portion of the door (and of course does not cover anything on the window regulators). Any help would be appreciated.
  6. that is pretty cool....but for real, what is up with the tires? I don't think tires could roll up hill with such a little nudge like they did in the video???
  7. I bought my ex-wife a commander...nice car...but definatley not a jeep
  8. Ya I plan on starting a build thread once I get things going, don't really got anything to post right now. I'm still kinda new to a lot of this stuff so I'm doing a lot of research before I buy stuff. Right now I'm looking into whether or not I should rebuild both the front and rear ends when I have the new gears installed. Also looking into whether or not I should upgrade axles to some aftermarket stronger ones. If anybody has advice please feel free to let me know.
  9. ya i guess when you look at the big picture pick and pull prices are not horrible...but around here I have a million times better luck finding better stuff for cheaper prices on craigslist.
  10. well guys I went today and picked it up. Dana 44 out of a 89 MJ with 3.07 gears. I don't think it was a bad deal for only 125 bucks!
  11. I have also heard good things about DuraBak, comes in a butt load of colors as well. check it out: http://www.nonslipcoating.com/
  12. I got my full size dodge ram done for 350. I agree that the place that quoted you is waaaaaay too much!
  13. I'm pretty happy with the hieght right now, really don't think I'm gonna wanna take it up any higher. no super paint for me either...I do have a buddy that works at a line-x dealer that wants to spray the whole truck in line-x though. Says he would do it for cost of supplies only. Thought it would be kinda cool...but that is definatley last on the list of things to do. what do you guys think of the Aussie lockers. Searched around the board for info on them and they seem to be pretty good. Is that a good locker to throw in the front and rear?
  14. Hey guys, I'm not new to cars but this is my first 4x4 vehicle so I don't know a lot about the off road stuff. I'm kinda looking to turn my comanche into a decent wheeler (nothing crazy but above average) and need some advice. Anyways, what is a good off road setup for our comanches? Right now I have a 93 XJ front D30 (no vacume crap) and I'm picking up a 89 MJ D44 rear. Thinking of running 4.56 gears and some kind of locker (not sure what kind, heard good stuff about Aussie?) in both front and rear axles. I am running 32 inch tires and 4 inches of lift. How does this setup sound? What do you think, what would you do different?
  15. ya I'm gonna pick it up for sure. Like I said I just hope that I'm not biting off more than I can chew in the price department of sawapping new gears into the thing. I have never had any axle work done before but I hear it can be pretty spendy!?!?!?!
  16. Its out of a 89 Comanche. I am definatley going to have to re-gear it, I have no use for 3.07 gears. Oh well that will give me an excuse for 4.56's and lockers in front and rear (think it should be the perfect combo for my 32's) :D I just hope that the price of installing gears doesnt overshadow the great deal I'm getting on the axle :dunno:
  17. I just worked out a deal with the guy for 125 dollars for the Dana 44 rear end....so if this thing really turns out to be what he says it is does that sound like a good price? If so I will probably pick it up this weekend.
  18. hey guys, I have a guy that claims to be selling a Dana 44 that came stock in his comanche (says he replaced it with a GM corporate 12 bolt). Says he believes his truck is a metric ton version but his build sheet says his payload is only 1800 pounds. Also he says the stock Dana 44 that he is selling out of his Comanche has 3.07 gears. I don't think this guy is lying to me but at the same time I don't know this guy from Adam and just wanted to see what you guys think before I lay down any money. Does this sound right? I thought the D44's came with 3.54 gears, and I also thought the metric ton comanches had a higher payload than 1800 lbs??? When I go and check this stuff out how do I know if this stuff is the real deal??
  19. hahaha...I visited my local pick and pull last week and let me tell you the ones in California suck just like everything else out here. For starters they had less than 10 jeeps total and there prices are ridiculous. I know they were asking 150 bucks for a set of front fenders for my brothers bronco!
  20. as I was searching craigslist I ran accross tmans cherokee project for sale. From what the add says sounds like he needs to get out of moms house sooner than later and the apartment he found won't allow non running projects.
  21. ok cool, so an HO header will work on a Renix motor you just have to have an EGR and O2 sensor bung welded in. Thats what I needed to know, I'm gonna pick up a APN header for a HO motor and give this a shot. Thanks guys.
  22. so if the exhaust ports are the same then wouldnt that mean that a 91 and newer manifold would fit on a renix motor?
  23. I need a new exhaust manifold on my 89 Renix 4.0. I have searched the board up and down and have seen a lot of different answers but what exactly is stoping a 92 and up manifold/header from fitting a 91 and below engine? Is it possible to fit a 92 and up manifold on a renix motor and if so how? The reason I want to know is simply becuase you can buy a 92 up APN header for around the same price if not cheaper than the price of a new renix stock manifold.
  24. Ya I am somewhat local. I live up North in Napa. But as good as this thing runs I would not have a problem making the 2 hour drive south to Hollister to do some wheeling. I got a exhaust leak off the manifold that I got to get fixed in the near future and then my MJ will be ready to get out and do some driving!
  25. ya, the top has been sprayed with some kind of bed liner. The liner is pretty old and starting to wear in spots but I kinda like it in a way.
