Can't keep my truck running
Potterman42 replied to Rymanrph's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Didn't realize it is a 97 conversion. Unfortunately my comment is for the RENIX. Not familiar with the 97 up. Good luck Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk -
Can't keep my truck running

It might be a good idea to freshen your ground system, there are a few good post for that, even if it doesn't solve your problem. You could also check you TPS and your air idle valve those could also cause the same symptoms. Eagle is right about checking your CPS. After that I would refreshen the grounds on the oil dipstick tube and in the rear tail light housing. I hope this helps, good luck. Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk -
Just swap the wires on the 88 sender and save the 91 as a backup Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk

Non-CAD D30 question
Potterman42 replied to Jeep Driver's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have a 88, 92, 93, XJ and a 89 Comanche. I don't think they made a non-cad D30 before 1990. Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk -
Not familiar with the 2.5 but I do know it's a Renix. I have both 4.0 renix and 4.0 h.o. I do know that it will work for the 4.0s but the wiring is reversed between the renix and the h.o. Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk

I'm not sure but apparently it's been doing this for a while even when it is plugged in. Looks like I really have problems. Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk -
89 Comanche TCU upgrade
Potterman42 replied to Potterman42's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Well new development. Made about 120 mile round trip in the Comanche today, went back to the truck for something and discovered the plug for the TCU hanging from under the dash apparently I didn't plug it back in after comparing the TCUs. Sooo I drove 120 miles with an unplugged TCU and I literally could not tell the difference in the shifting. So NOW what???? Definitely don't understand the system have a lot of research ahead of me. 89 Comanche TCU upgrade
Potterman42 replied to Potterman42's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have a TCU from a 91 Cherokee but the plug is different the only other TCU I have is from a 93 Cherokee. I may end up swapping the transmission from the 93, if I can't solve this problem. Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk -
89 Comanche TCU upgrade
Potterman42 replied to Potterman42's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks guys that's exactly the kind of feedback I am looking for. All of this started because I "lost " 1st gear but it would shift manually. I changed the shift solenoid but same results, now my shift cable, which is on the column, is messed up. Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk -

May have to revisit the wiring as I don't yet understand the reasoning behind it. I know you can get shift kits for the AW-4 but I not quite sure about going into the transmission I've read with mixed reviews that the AW-4 doesn't like rebuilds Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk -
89 Comanche TCU upgrade
Potterman42 replied to Potterman42's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Well I read a couple of cool write ups on the AW-4 were they wired it to switches for manual shifting. I'm not sure about the usefulness of that but it was supposed to be a "preformance"up grade, I also read one that put a switch on the ground of the TCU to keep it in 1st gear while trail riding. But supposedly one swapped an 90 model TCU into a 88 Comanche and it improved the "OUTPUT" of the Comanche. I do know that in later Cherokees the TCU was integrated into the ECUs but I don't know when and I'm not sure about the H.O. Comanches. Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk -

I read that swapping the tcu from an H.O. changed the shift points and "upgraded" a Renix. Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk -
I know this topic has been based out before trying to find good info for people that s actually completed this mod. I have a Bone Stock 89 Comanche pioneer that I want to keep mostly stock Renix but put a few "upgrades" on. Read article on swapping a 90 model TCU, I have a 91 TCU but plug is different. Any info would be appreciated.
