  1. The parts that are bad are plastic. I was wondering if there is a way to remove the old clear and just reapply some sort of DIY friendly clear. I don't think repaint is needed since the color goes all the way through.
  2. The plastic body panels on my wife's Honda are showing their age. Anyone know how to restore them without going to a professional?
  3. Didn't read through the posts before I mocked this. Didn't see the protos installed. Posting this anyhoo.
  4. Thanks! I'll take a looksee!
  5. Thanks! I'm just going to replace the injectors with, hopefully, better ones.
  6. I did contact Trevor a year ago and he had a set of the 0280155700 for Renix trucks for $180.00 w/3 years warranty. Great price and a solid warranty. However, I need to stretch my dollars as far as I can. https://www.injectorplanet.com/?ref:MjcyNTU4LjU4LjI3NDg2NS5U had a reman set of the 0280155700 for $115 shipped. Less warranty but, at that price, I could get the Felpro valve cover gasket at the same time. I hope my research doesn't fail me. I found no negative info about injectorplanet.com and what I did fine appeared legit. Unlike motormanfuelinjection.com. Who I researched and decided to stay far, far away!
  7. Folks, my MJ is having all kinds of issues. As I look for one, I find another. It runs well and it is my DD. My most pressing issue is a strong fuel smell. The rubber lines connecting to the fuel filter were leaking, so I replaced those. However, that didn't fix the issue. I stopped by a garage today to talk to a mechanic about it. Upon first look into the engine compartment, he noticed an injector was wet. Could be the problem? The engine was smoking a bit when we lifted the hood and he said the valve cover gasket was leaking which explains why my cover and other components are covered with a thin film of oil. Honestly, I thought that was from normal wear and age. However, I do burn oil. Also, a neighbor suggested I check the fuel tank gasket. Okay, maybe that's the problem? Or, maybe they are ALL the problem? So, would a leaking valve cover gasket account for a wet injector? If so, do I replace the valve cover gasket before replacing the injectors? I will use a Fel-Pro gasket. Anybody have any experience with these injectors? https://www.amazon.com/JDMON-Compatible-0280155710-0280155700-1987-1998/dp/B087CV8BLW/ref=sr_1_4?qid=1674855794&s=automotive&sr=1-4&vehicle=1988-42-348-334-34-31-8-8-3364-244-8-2-1766--3&vehicleName=1988+Jeep+Comanche or, do I replace the gas tank gasket? Is there a gas tank gasket? Only one I can find is on the gas cap. Thanks everybody.
  8. I watched it for a long time today. Didn't notice anything as bad as that image. Very, very slight wobble, didn't really look off.
  9. Don't know if it's a belt. Only really happens when it's cold outside and definitely when it's cold and wet. It was suggested that I check the harmonic balancer. That's why I bought the scope. However, I'm not clear on how to check it with the engine running.
  10. I did #5 today. I am not good at all with a multi meter and the one I have is a Harbor Freight special. If I did this right, I'm showing a just under 2 ohms and it's steady. Wiggling the harness has no effect. Image attached. Then I did #6 and it does seem to idle smoother. After reading #7 and #8 I decided they may be too technical to tackle today. I am definitely intimidated by electrical work. BTW, opening those dang wire looms in a major PITA!!! Also checked the throttle body and it looks really clean. Didn't need much cleaning. No sticking when moved manually. My occasional high idle must be something else.
  11. That's what I figured, but thought there might be more to it. That means that while the engine was "chirping", the probe offered no help. Not yet, anyway.
  12. Thanks for all the suggestions. I am back at checking it out today since the weather is very nice! I did buy a stethoscope, but I don't know how to use it to find problems and I'm actually kind-of scared to be poking that probe around a running motor. LOL! Any directions on using it to find leaks and squeaks is welcome.
  13. Yes sir. Sorry sir.
  14. Crap! I'm a liar. Rechecked the tips list and I haven't done 5. Just 1-4. I guess that goes on my ever-growing list of troubleshooting.
  15. I haven't had a sec to troubleshoot. After Dec 6, I'm hoping to carve out some time. I don't have a garage, so that doesn't help. My latest symptom to add is an odd cranking pattern if I start and stop a lot. Yesterday's example: Stopped at Dollar General, shopped a bit, started no problem. Stopped at Lowes, shopped a bit, started no problem. Stopped for gas. Turned over about four times and then started turning VERY slow. Like it was freezing cold or something. I gave it a rest, tried again and it was fine. Stopped to pick up Chinese food. Turned many times before catching. It seems to not do well with a lot of restarting.
  16. I've done 1-5 so far.
  17. Unfortunately, I'm not finding any brand name ceramic pads to fit an 88. The Centric posi-quiets may be my only option. They have some extended wear versions that may be better for all my hilly mountain driving. Rotors are even more frustrating. I'll just try NAPA Premium Pads and Rotors and see how it goes. Thanks for the suggestions.
  18. Well, I have no helpers. I'm jealous. 🙂
  19. Is the small child who knows how to use it included for $6? I could use a helper.
  20. Thank you. I actually read this post earlier. However, Black Magic doesn't sell a pad for an 88.
  21. Okay, but that sounds expensive.
  22. Recording was outside the cab. I'm near Deep Gap. A little over 2 hours from York, SC.
  23. I have uploaded an mp3 of a squeak/squeal I get when it's cold outside and louder when cold and damp. No noise when it's warm outside. I know it may just be a belt, but I figured I'd upload the sound in case it's a squeak that is specific to a part. MJ Squeek.mp3
  24. Was told recently to use "premium rotors and pads" on my 88 MJ. Premium? As a cynical former Art Director to me "Premium" just means they are shiny or the box is printed in four colors. I've read good things about Black Magic pads, but they don't make pads for my 88. I'm open to brand suggestions. Please suggest!
  25. I know there are many, many posts about stalling and many, many posts about high idling. If these issues occur at the same time, does that help with the diagnosis? (88 4.0 Pioneer Auto, Renix) I have been dealing with an intermittent high idle on startup for some time. Only at startup and mostly on warmer days. Opening and dropping the hood seems to correct the idle. I know, VERY technical solution. Recently, it stalled while sitting at a light. (First time stalling, BTW) Started again, ran a bit and stalled. I had some nice folks push me out of the way because it would not restart. After many attempts, it did start. Seems like it may stall while sitting at a light, pressing the brake, but no stall if just idling in Park. My work around has been to shift into Neutral if I have to sit for awhile, then back to Drive. I have already done the ground refreshing stuff to no avail. Again, does experiencing both the conditions mean something specific?
